When I saw A LADY VANISHES for the first time, I was four times younger than now but twice naive, and I thought :
"Wow ! Someone must have stolen the tune Michael Redgrave is humming right now and use it again years later !
But here I am ! And I just have unmasked you ! TRUTH WILL OUT !"

Then I got mesmerized by Margaret Lockwood...and completely forgot my mission.

"Enjoyably colourful flagwaver, from a time when films meant entertainment. If this were made today, it would probably be filled with repugnant cowardly adolescent anti-heroes, snivelling on about how "war is hell" and wallowing in the mud, instead of just getting on with the job with a chipper smile, and whistling along with their chums."

(Les Hall-Dawson - "As I See It": Autobiography Pt 9 - 1968)

"I went to see this film with my mother-in-law, and at the end six of the ushers started to beat her up. The woman on the other side of me said 'Aren't you going to help?' - I said 'No, six should be enough' "

William Holden should have been nominated for Best Actor for this one, one of the greatest American male performances in a lead in a motion picture EVER. It's pitch perfect from beginning to end, and was something I don't think Alec Guinness could have pulled off.
