Any audio geniuses here that can help? My amp is set to automatically detect the sound source it's receiving thru HDMI. It never used to do this clicking between audio sources (main menu to movie, pausing a movie, etc.) but now it does. A friend's receiver does this and it always annoyed me.

The clicking only started when I switched something in my setup. At least it now always detects the source (Blu-ray player, CD player, etc.) without trouble.

When playing a BD Audio, though, for example, it clicks between tracks. Is this the end of the world, no. But it sucks.

Anyone know how to troubleshoot this annoyance?

AG,

I have both a Pioneer Blu Ray and receiver.
I probably have pretty similar set up to yours.
My AV receiver detects the audio encode of the movie automatically as well.
I am pretty pleased with the setup, it works pretty well.

Is the clicking from the unit, the box itself, and or from the speakers?

I will run through some tests when I get home later today and put something back on here tonight.

Hi, Ado. I'd really appreciate that, thank you. It's from the receiver itself, when it detects a change in material, I guess?

You are welcome, off the top of my head I do not think mine clicks, but it is in a cabinet, so I would not necessarily hear it if it does. It might be related to it sensing a change in sound codec, especially from stereo to multichannel. But I will check it out later.

It's farkin' annoying. Whatever change I made means it detects the source 100% of the time but now it clicks. Particularly annoying when I'm listening to a Blu-Ray Audio and between every track I get the clicking. Farks up the mood, man. razz

I have an Insignia receiver, and lately every now and then the right rear speaker has some static sounds. But only every now and then. Only when I play certain Blu-rays and certain times during the movie. It drives me nuts! I hope you guys can solve your problem btw!smile

I do not have a click. I wonder, you are running straight HDMI in from your bluray/CD?
I am wondering if a setup would make a difference.

Hey, Ado. What do you mean by a setup? You mean double-checking everything or do you mean an actual professional setup?

Sorry for being obtuse, I mean your configuration of the cables in the back.
Do you have an HDMI cable to a primary HDMI input on the back of the receiver?
Depending on your receiver there may be more than one HDMI input on the back.

I have a couple Pioneeer receivers. What model # is it ? Have you checked to make sure you have the latest firmware ? It can't hurt 2 check. I certainly don't know but hearing it in between a BLURAY audio disc tracks only (does it do it in between CD tracks too) makes it sound like it is in the firmware somewhere. It didn't do it before you made the setting change 4 HDMI switching ? Do you have a Pioneer Bluray and or CD player ? I have never (let me knock on wood) had an issue with HDMI switching. I have 2 VSX 1121's that I love. It is still for me about as close 2 perfect as anything out there. The only glaring issue 2 me is that it doesn't play flac files as Pioneeer didn't add that until 2012. I have asked Pioneeer 4 a firmware update to add flac but it isn't happening lol. Not a deal breaker as there are other codecs & the bluray player reads flac.

I've had a couple of Pioneer recvrs (good feature for $ value).

I have noticed a clicking from inside the box itself when switching between sources. Once it settles, I have not noticed clicking after that.
The clicking between BD audio tracks is odd, unless the player & rcvr just stop talking during the gaps, and pick up again with signal.

If the clicking is from your speakers, then you may have a problem.

Hey, everyone! Thanks for the fantastic deets. I need to spend some extra time with the manual this long weekend, I guess. I think some of the questions were how I've configured the setup and which Blu-ray player I'm using. Setup is PS3 (with latest updates) HDMI'd directly into the receiver. It's set up so that, for example, if the receiver doesn't recognize which source I'm using (DVD recorder, Blu-ray player, etc.) the TV will be blank. So sound source has to be recognized and then the TV will also receive the picture. Just not sure if I've completely config'd it properly. I do know that previously I'd had issues with the receiver recognizing the source. For example, if I was recording something on my Pioneer DVD Recorder, then turned on the PS3 to watch a movie simultaneously, I'd have a helluva time getting the receiver to recognize the Blu-ray player and send both audio and picture as appropriate. The problem is I can't remember what I did to finally get it to recognize the source 100% of the time. After that, though, the clicking sound from the receiver (not the speakers) was introduced. Haven't tried a CD to see if it clicks between tracks. Hope that helps. And thank you again!

I don't have a pioneer receiver but I also have a PS3 setup and I remember when I switched it in the video settings to 1080p 24fps, suddenly there was a longer delay each time the signal switched from one format to the other (my beamer takes a second or two to adjust). I take it you can only play blu-ray's via ps3? Or do you have a second blu-ray player so you can compare? Maybe experiment a bit with the signal settings in PS3.
