It looks great. Skyfall was a phenomenal success for the franchise, so it's not surprising that they are continuing with that films general mood. It's a tough film to beat though. But I have faith in Mendes and co!

But I have faith in Mendes and co! I'm not just saying this to be controversial, but genuinely, outside of fan circles, the only person I know who didn't find Skyfall a bit dull is my partner, Tracy. Everyone else, colleagues, non-movie fanatic friends and business contacts, all seem to have been universally underwhelmed by it. I accept the film was a huge success but I do wonder how much of that is down to hype (after all I can cite a huge number of films that have probably out-performed themselves at the box office just because of hype as Im sure we all can). I quite liked Skyfall upon first viewing - primarily because I wasn't expecting much, having hated the previous two Craig Bond movies - but I've seen it a couple of times since and I now actually think it is pretty terrible. It is humourless, has a dreadful villain and is so full of stupidity I could write a book about it. The action is ok in places (the chase through the Underground station and the court room shoot out for example) but the climax is just plain dull. The one thing it has going for it is the photography but that's about it. Now, I know the film is popular with a lot of people here and I respect that but I remain mystified why Skyfail should have done so well at the box office.

Now, I know the film is popular with a lot of people here and I respect that but I remain mystified why Skyfail should have done so well at the box office. Because it wasnt just a good Bond film, it was a good film. And it happened to capture the zeitgeist. I consider Skyfall to be among the best Bond films. And a true continuation of Casino Royale (CR took away some of the formula aspects and Skyfall reinstated them, in an updated fashion) The script isnt perfect. Silva's plan is far to complicated and unlikely to ever really work for instance, but there are loads of Bond films with unlikely plots which didnt get the bashing Skyfall got. Those who favor the hijinks of the Moore era might dislike these films, but I could not be happier with the current crop

Moonraker reinvigorated your interest? To each his own I guess.

Those 70's and 80's Bonds were very much tailored to Moore's talents as an actor, such as they are. And he seems to have opposed to the times when they did try to show 007 have more of an edge. (Bond killing Loque in cold blood in FYEO for instance) It's interesting that the actor who held the role the longest seems to have been the least comfortable with playing a secret agent who is essentially a trained killer and assassin, finding it at odds with his personal beliefs and his public image as a UNICEF ambassador.
