One of the books I've most enjoyed recently, albeit probably one our Jim Phelps would probably roll his eyes at even while enjoying it too, is being adapted for the screen, and now we know it'll be handled by none other than one of our most-discussed directors 'round these parts.
I think Robert Zemeckis would have been a great choice, but Spielberg certainly ought to be as well, and if nothing else the sheer self-referential quality to it ought to be amusing for at least the time between now and whenever the film comes out. And hey, an opportunity for John Williams to use themes from all his sci-fi / fantasy scores together in a single work!
Waste of talent, if true. I cannot fathom the acclaim this book got (same goes for Redshirts, for that matter) - it read like a piece of poorly written fanfic to me.
