MONDAY, MARCH 23

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION---sequel poster released showing Tom Cruise hanging from an Airbus A400 and a trailer in which the IMF team takes on The Syndicate, a team of rogue assassins that appeared on the original tv series.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNPZGc0WmfM

THE LEVIATHAN---Simon Kinberg (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, CINDERELLA) and Neill Blomkamp (DISTRICT 9) will be co-producers of the sci fi movie based on the concept short film by Ruairi Robinson (THE LAST DAYS ON MARS) which is set in the 22nd century where pilots hunt giant whale-like creatures in the sky.

ALIEN 5---Neill Blomkamp said his sequel will have Ridley Scott as the producer and it won't "tread on the toes" of Scott's PROMETHEUS 2 sequel, "I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping PROMETHEUS 2 a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make.” PROMETHEUS 2 will premiere on March 4, 2016 and the Alien sequel will premiere in 2017.
He commented on the sequel's title, “I sent what I wanted as the title to Ridley. It’s kinda quite bold, and he was like, ‘I really like that.’ So I’m gonna test it, I don’t think it’s gonna work, though. I have my own idea but it gives away too much if I say the title. But in the event that it doesn’t work, I’m dead in the water…”

THE X-FILES---Fox is reportedly close to approving a miniseries in which David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson return. Speculation is there will be 6-10 episodes.

DOWNTON ABBEY---sources say the upcoming Season 6 will be the last season.

SHE WHO BRINGS GIFTS---Glenn Close and Gemma Arterton star in this sci fi movie based on the novel THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS in which a girl with a near-genius IQ is among the survivors after a fungus plague killed most of mankind. Colm McCarthy (SHERLOCK, DOCTOR WHO) is the director.

BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL---biomovie underway at Sony Pictures based on the Carole King biomusical. Tom Hanks is a co-producer.

INTERSTELLAR---Jonathan Nolan said his original script had the worm hole collapsing when Matthew McConaughey tried to send the data back which crushed him, left Anne Hathaway on her own and uncertainty as to if the data was actually sent.

THOR---director Kenneth Branagh commented on returning for a future Marvel sequel, "They know what they want and we all got on terribly well, so I'm sure if they felt there was a spot for me somewhere in there they'd give me a shout. And of course I'd listen, but it's not something I'm actively seeking or looking for, although I am actively enjoying and seeking out the movies every time they come out. So I'm definitely a fan of the world."

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE---director Lexi Alexander attributed the failure of her 2008 superhero movie to studio Lionsgate, "My relationship with them was different than those of the other filmmakers they work with because Lionsgate had the rights to Punisher and paid for the movie. Marvel was an equal partner, but unfortunately when there were creative decision conflicts, Marvel would let Lionsgate be the tie breaker. I always regretted that I made a Marvel movie this way, because 99% of their notes were much better than the studios and I was more in tune with them."

THE DISCIPLES---Wes Craven tv series underway based on the upcoming comic book set in the future in which a Senator hires three bounty hunter to return his daughter from a mysterious cult on Ganymede, one of Jupiter's moons.

A FINE ROMANCE---Candice Bergen's upcoming second memoir includes her comments on her weight gain, "Let me just come right out and say it: I am fat...In the past 15 years...I have put on 30 pounds. I live to eat. None of this 'eat to live' stuff for me...Dieting is out of my purview...I crave cookies...all the things that dilate my pupils."

INDEPENDENCE DAY---Charlotte Gainsbourg (NYMPHOMANIAC) is in negotiations to co-star in the sequel with Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum.

THE FLASH---Doug Jones (HELLBOY) will play Deathbolt on an upcoming episode.

LULLABY---movie underway based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk (FIGHT CLUB) in which a reporter discovers a mysterious lullaby killed his child and then uses it to kill others.

Sounds like she's angling for a Marvel flick.

I guess "dark" is out, and "rogue" is the new cool buzz word in Hollywood.

Some how I can picture her going bat shat crazy and crushing some alien balls in the process! big grin

That sounds like a weird and interesting concept. I suspect it will be totally wasted and have an awful score.

And I can't say I'm remotely interested "The X-Files", though I'll give it a shot. But I'm excited as the possibility of a possible Mark Snow return.

NO, NO, NO. The Syndicate was the mob by another name. End of story.

Carter had better have the good sense to bring in Wong and the Morgan brothers to at least co-write the X-Files mini-series. If he is writing this solo or with Spotnitz it's going to be awful.

And Vince Gilligan, too! Or fresh talent, I'm not averse to some fresh talent.

Carter's guiding hand has always been fine, but the episodes he wrote/helmed were not even close to high points in the series - possible exception being The Post-Modern Prometheus.

Thanks for the laugh, about the dumbest thing I've seen this year. big grin

Definitely a better approach than any sequel movie would be. Both movies for me had a hard time conveying the spirit of the show and giving them a decent storyline to unfold over the course of a season would be interesting to watch.

INTERSTELLAR---Jonathan Nolan said his original script had the worm hole collapsing when Matthew McConaughey tried to send the data back which crushed him, left Anne Hathaway on her own and uncertainty as to if the data was actually sent.

Having seen it recently, that moment was where the movie for me jumped the shark, at least this alternate ending would have made the message of the movie more poignant instead of that feel good wanna-be last reel we got instead.

LEVIATHAN - I like it. If it matters, it looks better than Prometheus... more entertained by that trailer than I was by the entire Prometheus film.
