Not just "the most exciting motion picture event of all time" but as the poster says "the most exciting ORIGINAL motion picture event of all time". Which is rather odd considering it wasn't original, but a remake.
As to where the accolade should really go, kind of hard to say. I think I'd have to give it to The Empire Strikes Back.
There must be thousands of examples of Hollywood hyperbole on movie posters over the years (The greatest motion picture event ever!), cue for Bob to post a lot of lovely vintage posters.
It would have been nice to see Kong...straddling the two towers...in daylight...fighting jet fighters.
THERE IS NO COMPARISON FOR BOREDOM after the first 52 minutes and 13 seconds (on the Special Edition Directors Cut DVD)!
This is the STAR TREK movie that I just watch up till Spock arrives in the Courier Ship and then rewind and watch again up till that point. It's just so "who the hell cares" sleep inducing after that. For me.
Then it just becomes Goldsmith "playing the scales" Veger Theme to matte paintings and Persis Khambata in that "one more 1/2 inch and we see her vaginer outfit" till the end of the movie.
I've had hundreds of MOST EXCITING MP Events down the years! JAWS blew my socks off! STAR WARS put them back on and exploded them! EMPIRE STRIKES BACK gave me a melt-down! Tons of others...SUPERMAN-THE MOVIE...CE3K...RAIDERS & TEMPLE OF DOOM...E.T...
I must say though, say what you will about the film, but EVERY TIME I see that STAR TREK-TMP poster, it gives me goose-bumps of delight.
THERE IS NO COMPARISON FOR BOREDOM after the first 1/2 hour!

I for one love ST TMP from beginning to end. I view it like Fantasia. It's a visual and audio treat.
