Episodes of “Batman”? BATMAN???!

(Holy cow, I’ll never live long enough to see all the surprises there are left in the world, honestly.)

Somebody needs to tell me what it was like with her on the show.

That was practically the only thing I knew she'd ever done.

We must not forget La Bankhead in the paint sprayer episode of the Lucy Desi Comedy Hour.

Well, now that the show is finally available to us, does anyone happen to know *which* episodes of "Batman" she appeared in? (Seasons, episode names, airdates, etc.?)

All I know is that Tallulah played the Black Widow.
You can watch clips on YouTube.

Season 2, Episode 55 "Black Widow Strikes Again" aired March 15, 1967*
Season 2, Episode 56 "Caught in the Spider's Den" aired March 16, 1967*

*per IMDB and subject to being wrong.

Here are a few interesting Bankhead-isms from the IMDB:

"She was infamous for not wearing underwear. According to Hume Cronyn, during the filming of Lifeboat (1944) the crew complained about her flashing them when she had to climb a ladder to go into the mock-up of a lifeboat. When their objections to Bankhead's exhibitionism reached director Alfred Hitchcock, he reportedly quipped that he did not know if it was a matter for wardrobe or hairdressing."

"Her role as the Black Widow on the television series Batman (1966) is the last on-screen appearance she made."

"She smoked 150 cigarettes a day."

If you've never seen Hitchcock's Lifeboat, I think it's a must-see.
Tallulah is buried in Church Hill, Maryland.
I visited her gravesite once.

Her last onscreen appearance was actually on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour".

No she didn't. Guest villains on Batman received only $4000 or $2000 per half hour show. In fact, the reason why Frank Gorshin didn't appear at all during the second season as the Riddler (despite being the breakout star of the group) was because he insisted on more money for appearing that executive producer William Dozier refused to give him because it would have meant raising the budget for all guest villains. After being replaced by John Astin in one episode in Season 2, Gorshin did come back in Season 3 when the rate was by then $3000 for a single half hour episode. Whoever posted that $20,000 info on imdb doesn't know what he's talking about.

"Gorshin did come back in Season 3"

BATMAN lasted THREE seasons?

REALLY?

I can tell you: it were two awful episodes. The only fun thing was when Burt Ward had to pretend he was Black Widow in disguise.

Not even for camp value? Dang.

I'd still kinda like to see what I'll need to do when I'm in my sixties if I want to earn 20 G's for a couple of day's work. smile

There was no camp, just a third season struggling to pass half an hour on a meager budget. Black widow and her assistant moved with the grace of Frankenstein's creature, and Talula sounded like Katherine Hepburn in her latter years, talking whilst sitting on the rear seat of a car with no suspension going over a pot holed country road.
Add to that the minimalistic sets the flat colours (they apparently had found tanker loads of off red, off green, off blue and off purple somewhere) and most of all a flat kind of lighting that took all the life out of the picture. You can see the exact same thing in Man from U.N.C.L.E. season 4. I don't know what happened in 1968, maybe they changed film stock or used different cameras but both series became very flat lighting wise resulting in a lifeless picture. And in both cases that was extremely apparent because the 1st season of Batman and the 2nd season of Man from U.N.C.L.E. were very much full of life and rich in image and colour.
