Is the Goldsmith "Duck Quack" in "Corky's Retreat" pumped up sonically for maximum enjoyment?

Are they shipping yet? I haven't received mine yet.

UPDATE: Just got mine in the mail. Okay. Sadly the "Duck Quack" is mixed down low, just like the Varese. Almost inaudible.

I know the other "pumped up" mix does exist, cause I do have it. Sorry but I'm a "Duck Quack" lover. I think the Maestro put that in for a reason. So sad the engineers on these 2 MAGIC releases felt differently and don't let you hear it to it's fullest. I do believe Goldsmith felt the lake setting of the picture made him think of Ducks and thus it's in there.

You can hear what I'm talking about in the "Duck Quack" sample link above.

All in all MAGIC is truly a Superb Jerry Goldsmith score.

Now I have to pull out my DVD and see how it's actually mixed in the movie itself!

Okay, I've located and listened to the MAGIC DVD on the Dark Sky Films DVD Label. It appears that Richard Attenborough and the scoring mixers on the film, DID NOT LIKE the more bold "Duck Quack" and thus dialed it way down in the film mix. So the Soundtrack CD mixers are honoring that version. It sounds the same in the film as in their CD Mix, yes dialed way down. Barely audible. Fair enough.

I love the pumped up Duck Quack and am very happy that I have it for maximum enjoyment. I'd love to hear what Jerry himself would have preferred? He did write it and a musician did play it at the sessions in all it's bold and loud Duck Quacking glory!

I guess I just have a thing for ducks. Go figure. Zoob out.

Thank you sir Projectionator. I shall. And my best to you as well!

If I were a Doctor, I'd probably be a Quack!

I think Jerry went for a Slowed Down version of The Mallard:

There's some great duck quacking in The Last Starfighter. Also some in Search For Spock I think.

Where does this sound mix come from, zooba?

Are you implying that, from 1978 until sometime before Varese's 2003 CD of MAGIC, this is how that cue sounded within the film?

Zoob, you might want to listen to Ennio Morricone's music for the 1972 movie BLUEBEARD.
There's quacking sounds in that, too, but reportedly the quacks were provided by a vocalist (a human vocalist, that is - not a duck).

so it's abit of a riddle. The sound of one duck fan quacking.

Comes from an unmentionable. And now I guess they never ever pumped up the duck for the film mix.

Here just after 1:37 is the duck quack effect. I guess they are horns.

I hope that this "duck quacking" will not become another "mixing bowls".

Sounds to me like a harmonica. I don't know if it's a huge difference but I usually lean toward Jerry's original intent. I still like the CD mix of the cue just fine.

Bits of "quacki-ness" going on during "La Corrida" from Morricone's "The Big Gundown" as well.

Ah ... I feel confident that the mono bootleg audio posted in this thread is not ANY kind of a "mix," and certainly does not reflect the composer's intent. The bootleg sounds like it was recorded by a single microphone somewhere in the room, positioned in such a way that the "quacking" (probably bass harmonica) sounds artificially loud. If the bootleg mic had been positioned with a better angle on the tuba, you'd probably be asking about the "pumped up" tuba part!

Yet another reason not to discuss or dignify bootlegs on this forum.

There was also some "quacking" on one of the cues in the Takemitsu compilation cd (on Ryko?), if you're keen to pursue this further.

And since nobody else is bothering to do so, I'll be the first:

"Zooba, your attention to this cue is starting to quack me up." big grin

We need to get Goldsmith's MAGIC Lake Quacks and Grusin's GOLDEN POND Lake Loons together for a duet! That would sound pretty Hefti!

LORD LOVE A DUCK!

Yes, Zoob has gotten a looney over this whole thing I'd say.

I can't help imagining "The Postman" Burgess Meredith's Body bobbing up in that scene and Henry and Kate start wacking it with their oars!
