do you think gave the best performances?

Stand-outs for me would be:

Ricardo Montalban as Khan in SPACE SEED

and

William Windom in THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE.

Honorable mentions:

Yvonne Craig's fine green butt, boobs and heck, her whole beautiful body in WHOM GODS DESTROY.

Marta the Orion Slave girl.

I always really liked Elisha Cook as Kirk's legal Counsel Samuel T. Cogley in Court Marshall.

Yes, he was good in that. I like how he "Demanded" it!

Cringe worthy performance.

Melvin Beli as The Friendly Angel in AND THE CHILDREN SHALL LEAD.

Most of the kids were pretty awful too in that one. Fake tears applied on their faces.

The guy who played Kodos and Anton Keridian in THE CONSCIENCE OF THE KING was quite good.

Of course Mark Lenard's two appearances as Romulan Commander and Sarek were top drawer!

William Marshall as Dr. Daystrom in The Ultimate Computer.

Joanne Linville as the Romulan Commander in The Enterprise Incident.

Celia Lovski as T'Pau in Amok Time. (She was once married to Peter Lorre!)

I agree, William Windom as Decker in The Doomsday Machine was unforgettable.

Basil Poledouris as the door knocking Nazi in Patterns of Force. smile

I loved William Campbell as Trelane,

but thought he was the most wimpy Klingon ever, in TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES.

His cute little bow curtsy was too much. Trelane himself, wouldn't have been that sissy.

Casting was one of the show's great strengths, even into the third season, when the writing deteriorated a bit. A couple of standouts spring to mind . . .

"Gem" from "The Empath," (Kathryn Hays) a remarkably expressive performance, particularly given that it's done entirely in pantomime, without dialogue.

"Garth of Izar" from the above-mentioned "Whom Gods Destroy," (Steve Ihnat) a showy, scenery-chewing madman role, yet with an undercurrent of dignity, which more fully reveals itself after the character is "cured" at the end.

Ted Cassidy as a big, scary android. If I ever met that guy in a dark alley I'd need a new pair of shorts.

I believe I recently caught the tail-end of the Joan Collins episode. Kirk had to stop Bones saving her from an automobile accident at the logical insistence of Spock in order to prevent earth history from taking an alternative "wrong" turn. Puts a new spin on the expression, "how do you like your history."

The guy who played Kodos and Anton Keridian in THE CONSCIENCE OF THE KING was quite good.

Who was none other than Arnold Moss, who along with Joseph Wiseman, had one of the most threatening monetones.
