Be aware, also, that while the FYC has lots of gorgeous music, and many film versions of the cues on the commercial album, the standout cue, "The Reunion", is actually an alternate version on the FYC, oddly.

The film version of this cue, possibly my favorite thing Williams has ever written, is the one on the commercial album. It matches the film exactly.

Thank you james for all of the information. It is very interesting and I am going to share it with my daughter. She is impressed at the depth of the knowledge shared on this board. As I told her, "cool, huh?"

Glad to help!

The commercial album really has all the highlights, though I do recommend rearranging it in film order, as described in the Amazon link I posted.

That said, I love some of the tracks on the FYC, and I'd buy a complete release in a second, to complement the album, which I would never part withsmile

Also, the film had an original song from the band Ministry, which is not included on the soundtrack album.

It's called 'What About Us?" and is only available on this album:

http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Fits-Ministry/dp/B00005KKCL

It's not just a random rock song, it was specifically written for the Flesh Fair sequence and is an integral part of the film. It's VERY different from the Williams music, obviously, but I included it in my rearranged CD of the album. I find that the abrupt shift just reflects the film's distinctive style. My Amazon notes describe where to place it.

Well, my daughter passed on the eBay and Amazon promos and bought the Warner Brothers release of the score.I must say that the tracks "Stored Memories and Monica's Theme" and "Where Dreams Are Born" are stunning. Happy daughter, happy life.

Cool!

Next week, I'm doing a lecture on sci fi at a Norwegian film festival for young filmmakers (teenagers, mostly), and A.I. is among the films I will showcase. I have no idea how old your daughter is, but there's nothing like getting youngsters interested in something you're passionate about yourself. Hopefully, they will latch on to this film (and score) the way I did back in 2001.

That is awesome Thor. She is a young twenty something and has been passionate about science since she became aware of her surroundings. She graduated with a major and 2 minors in science smile. It would be awesome if you could video your presentation and share it with us.

Thanks for the info.

Also would LOVE an EXPANDED edition and while I have no problems with the original album, I think like STAR WARS it is a score that deserves every note represented. I don't think Williams ever topped his score for A.I. personally as some of his most beautiful work ever created.

True, it's an incredible score, neither the soundtrack release nor the promo [which has the tracks in a very odd order] do it justice, such scores like this deserve to be heard in full and in order to appreciate the composer's construction. So much great stuff in this,so much diversity, one minute it's all atonal, one minute it's more minimalist, one minute it's ethereally beautiful, yet it still hangs together superbly. But then I'm one of the few who love the film too, so under-appreciated and to me not especialy slushy either.

An expanded AI is one of my last holy trails. Mostly for the film version of the Rogue City cue, with the Straussian motif in it.

All I ask is that whomever puts it out doesn't make any goddamn musical suites by combining cues on their MacBook editing suite. (I won't name names, they know who they are)

MINORITY REPORT, THE ROAD, GROUNDHOG DAY, A.I., JURASSIC PARK, DR. WHO, INTERSTELLAR, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR and ALIEN. They all represent different forms of sci fi.

I "borrowed" this cd from my daughter today and gave it a full listen. What an amazing score. We are going to look for piano music for certain selections if available. Track 12, "The Reunion" is spectacular.
