Silva's Film Music 2014 should be released in a month or two. Maybe three.

It'd be the perfect opportunity for James Fitzpatrick and the COPP to record a static free and dazzling version of Interstellar's "Quantifiable Connection", the last ( I think ) piece of score from the movie that listeners really want.

No doubt there will be music from Interstellar on the album, and although it'll be a digital only release, it'd be great to have this re-recorded.

Just wishin' and hopin' ...

In the meantime, YouTube people have fixed this in their own ways, and you'd never know if you weren't told.

Whether there is a FILM MUSIC 2014 has absolutely nothing to do with me ... any decision re this has to come from Rick Clark at Silva Screen Records, as I have not worked for that company for over 10 years ... I just book the orchestra for them

Well, looks like my questions have been answered, to a degree at least.

Silva Screen is getting ready to release The Best Of Hans Zimmer Volume 2, which includes music from Interstellar performed by London Music Works, Cornfield Chase, S.T.A.Y, and No Time For Caution. No Quantifiable Connection, at least on this ( digital only ? ) release.

I asked Silva Screen earlier this month whether they would be releasing a 'Film Music 2014' compilation album.

Sadly, they replied 'no' but didn't give a reason.

A real shame, I've been enjoying these annual releases since 2008!

Forgive me for saying so, but ...

It irks me when people make an "announcement" in the thread subject, only to find out when you click on the thread that there is actually no such announcement at all.

I'm with Stephen on this one. The thread title should describe better what the thread is about.

One hint may be selling one of film 2010-13 at 50 pence or roughly us 1.00. each Xmas bauble sale week. Having discovered them found I really liked and introduced me to a lot of music never would have heard of or bought. I bought at full digital price 2007-2009.

Zimmer vol.1 was half price digitally.

I posted sale on here but got no interest on here.

The original thread title was already changed ( from James Fitzpatrick, Save Quantifiable Connection ! ) , I thought the new title is accurate enough, they are releasing music from Interstellar after all.

Let me just throw my hands in the air and shrug big grin

Let me give it a third try.

That IS a shame, it is one album I look forward to each year. I guess they went digital after sales of physical copies didn't make enough profit, and now the digital release is canned ?

Damn .

I honestly cannot understand the fascination for this score. Unlike many, I'm not anti-Zimmer at all (indeed, I think his scores for The Peacemaker and Backdraft are exceptional) but I found Interstellar to be , at best, boring and at worst just a horrible noise.

It' one of about 5 reasons that Interstellar is the first film in 25 years that I have seriously considered walking out of half way through.

Ridiculous release. All tracks, minus the three from Interstellar, are already available on the Zimmer 6CD set from Silva.

But there's a market for listeners who didn't buy that set, and will bite for the 2 discs. Silva knows their audience.

I think those releases are all what is there today when it comes to rerecordings.

all the superior guys are no longer doing for a long time now.

John Williams with the LSO or Boston Pops
Erich Kunzel with the Cinc. Pops

All the Varese rerecordings conducted by Debney, McNeely, Goldsmith

Then a few one-shots like this Superhero compilation with the Cinc Pops and
Lockhard, which has some strange voice overs by Adam West and a lot of
we-dont-care errors, attributing the music of x men 3 to Ottman in the liner notes etc.

And german orchestras doing some scores by various composer and another cd with
music by Williams .

But the Prague Phil and London Music Works are all what has endured.
I think the performance of them could be much better, with the City of Prague Phil
who hear they are not as skilled like the other musicians in the other orchestra and
they are a telefophone orchestra.
And London Music Works are actually doing high end mock-ups.

But beggars can't be chosers.

This is not a snarky question, but, have you actually heard the work of the COPP in the last few years? They are doing some brilliant work, some really sharp and remarkable recordings.

Saying they " are not as skilled like the other musicians in the other orchestra" really tellus us you must not have heard their works recently . Listen to their Conan score recordings, Quo Vadis, the Goldsmith re-recordings, any of the wonderful work they've done with James Fitzpatrick and then let's see how you feel. I'd put their stuff up against any of the old Telarc discs.

Also, what the heck is a "telefophone" orchestra? razz

As far as London Music Works, check out their excellent version of Zimmer's 160 BPM. There are any number of covers they've done that can be highly recommended. Some selections may be less successful than others, but overall they do some very pleasing soundtrack recordings.

you are right, I checked some of the recordings, they are fantastic.
I did not mean to depreciate them.

A telephone-orchestra is what the Hollywood-Studio orchestra actually also is,
not an orchestra run by an organization funded by a broadcaster or the town or
some institute doing an entire session after session and having like a 1oo plus musicians working
full-time for them.

A telephone-orchestra is assembled for the ocassion. Via telephone in the past.
Sometimes those are maybe even better because when they take really money and there is a community
of musicians doing it so regular like in Hollywood (which is I think is unique).
But often those are just not used to play in exactly that ensemble, so there is no kind of culture like
the LSO or NYP or the Wiener Philharmoniker have developed over many decades.
