Is it just me or is the Screen Archives site producing 80 point type when you look at the upcoming release section?

It looks OK to me...

Is it me or is the cover art for DRAGONWYCK the most gorgeous cover art ever?

Now, we can see and hear what ending is on the damn thing.

Gorgeous cover art could be a whole separate topic, beginning with THE HORSE SOLDIERS and THE CAINE MUTINY...

I just placed my order this morning. I asked Craig Spaulding -- who always e-mails personally within a few minutes of my placing them, regardless of the hour at which the purchase was made -- when he sleeps.

Is it me, or is Craig Spaulding producing a series of Alfred Newman CDs while never sleeping?

Dragonwyck should be purchased by all golden age fans. No one can do a better job than Craig is doing. We all must support him.

Maybe he should put out Richard Rodney Bennett's score to SATAN NEVER SLEEPS!

Great score, solid movie and a fine performance from Vincent Price.

This is perhaps my favorite Newman score. I did a substantial review of the DVD with isolated score back in FSMO Vol. 14, No. 1 ( http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/fsmonline/story.cfm?maID=1758 ). In a nutshell, anyone who is a fan of the score should definitely check out the DVD! The sound quality is improved, the placement of an unused cue is corrected, and you get some fun sessions audio. Not to mention a terrific film!

Here's a clip featuring one of my favorite pieces from the film:

And the film's trailer, with Newman's music:

And finally, this rather spoilery scene showcasing the power of Newman's contribution to the film:

How can anyone even NOTICE Vincent Price is in the film when the most gorgeous woman to ever set foot on this planet -- Gene Tierney -- is in the same movie?

there are to more pieces of music not available to SAE. they are part of the acetate collection from this film.

the first is from a short scene cut from the movie that explains what the plant does andhow it works. this runs only 1:21

Then thereis music for the original finale that runs 4:13

Just about to pick up my first copy of this score, have read rave reviews about it!

I am a huge fan of Alfred.

Seeing as how one of their best, Keys of the Kingdom, sold out without any apparent notice, you are probably wise to prioritize picking up the rest of these great SAE Alfred Newman releases. They are all pretty good, even if nothing is IMO quite at the amazing level of Captain from Castile, which you already have.

Some others have unfortunately sold out, but here are all the SAE label titles currently in stock there:

I would also like to give a recommendation to Foxes of Harrow, composed by David Buttolph and conducted by Alfred Newman...give a listen to the sound clips, as I think ol' Alfred may have influenced his Fox colleague's compositional voice:

And I'll keep dreaming of a KotK rerecording (or perhaps a Kritzerland release...imagine the sound).

My favorite Alfred remains the Greatest Story Ever Told, but scores like The Robe, Egyptian, Song of Bernadette, Counterfeit Traitor, Man Hunt, How the West Was Won (the score that had me fall in love with Westerns and might be the best ever imo), David and Bathsheba...we could go on so long, just like Jerry.
