John Williams is OFFICIALLY on board to score Steven Spielberg's 28th theatrical film, which is also him and John Williams' 27th theatrical feature collaboration.

This film was previously known as "St. James Place" or "Untitled Cold War Spy Thriller" before being re-titled "Bridge of Spies".

Bridge of Spies is written by Matt Charman and Joel & Ethan Coen and stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and Eve Hewson. It is based on the 1960 U-2 incident, in which a lawyer named James Donovan is thrust into the center of the Cold War when he is given a mission to negotiate the release of Francis Gary Powers, a pilot whose plane was shot down in the Soviet Union.

Principal photography began on September 8, 2014, in Brooklyn, New York City. Touchstone Pictures will release the film in North America on October 16, 2015, and 20th Century Fox will distribute in the remaining territories.

Formerly known as ST. JAMES' PLACE.

Should be good. I'm expecting another MUNICH-type score.

Out of curiosity, where did you find word of the title change? The linked PDF still has it as "Untitled Cold War Thriller", and I can't find anything else online about the new title.

I certainly like it, very moody title. Just curious where the info came from.

Guys you may comprehend that I love the music of John Williams from earlier comments. But I also think film music is some of the greatest music being written and all not all coming from JW. But per this announcement I will have two film scores this year from Mr. Williams. May I have the privilege to hear these two scores.

ain't no spring chicken

Was this ever in question? The only thing that could possibly have been an issue, and thankfully it wasn't, is Maestro's health.

Two scores from Williams this year.

Breathe it in deeply. We won't have this occurring all that often anymore.

The Liverpool contingent of the FSM board (in this case Roy Donga, Spymaster and myself - Kev McGann was absent on this occasion) are so sad that we celebrated this news by calling our quiz name tonight "A Bridge Of Spies". Go Johnny, yeah! big grin

I believe he's already working on it. Last report said he'd finished 3 reels or so. This is all according to this board's own Ford A. Thaxton.
I'm guessing that he's getting TFA out of the way right now to make room for The Bridge of Spies.

I remember the Lee Majors TV presentation - the part that comes back to me strongest is when the russian prosecutor makes pointed remarks about Powers' operational usage of pressing "the" button. What if, in pressing the button, a nuclear device had been delivered at the appointed mission time/place? To Powers' way of thinking, other than his incursion, pushing the button to operate the camera to take pictures was as intrusive as his mission profile got, but, he's played like a fiddle.

About 4:40

Nice one, Thorbig grin

Personally, I thought 'Untitled Cold War Spy Thriller' sounded better.
