So the latest word is that Drew Goddard will be writing and directing the new Spider-Man movie. Given his working relationship with Giacchino, maybe all these years after the Captain America rumor Giacchino will finally score a Marvel superhero movie?

I'll never forget Giacchino's stunning score for CABIN IN THE WOODS, the only movie Goddard has directed.

Think that might have been the joke. wink

With that said, I would love to see either Julyan or Giacchino score a superhero movie. But my money would be on someone else.

Yes, I don't think Goddard actually has a working relationship with Giacchino, he just happens to have written quite a few things that Giacchino has scored (because they were all produced by J.J. Abrams.)

Saying that, I really hope he doesn't use David Julyan! And a Giacchino Marvel score would be a treat, as it would guarantee there'd be some actual melody. (Not that the SPIDER-MAN films have done too badly there - though THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 was probably my most detested score in many a moon. Just gratingly bad.)

Exactly. Drew Goddard is or was part of the Bad Robot team. He worked on Alias, Lost, and wrote Cloverfield.

I'm curious why some people think David Julyan would be a great choice for a SPIDER-MAN score? Maybe I've heard the wrong scores by him. I've heard FOLLOWING, MEMENTO, INSOMNIA, THE DESCENT, THE PRESTIGE and CABIN IN THE WOODS. I don't really remember the latter, only heard it in the film and it didn't make an impression either way, but the others are all a million miles away from what I would consider suitable for Spidey. So what am I missing? Are his DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS scores an indicator of why he should score Spidey, perhaps?

They'll never let Julyan score Spider-Man, so this is just idiocy, don't worry.

He wrote scores for those movies, and they fit the movies they were for. Since none of those films were Spider-man, it's hard to tell what Julyan would write for Spider-man. It's like saying, "Why hire Elfman for Batman? I've heard Pee-wee, I've heard Midnight Run. Clearly he can't do Batman."

Whoever the next Spider-man director (I'm not willing to buy into rumors until they are officially confirmed) hires to score the movie, I bet the score will be a Spider-man score.

Neither was the James Horner score, for that matter.

Eerrr....yes it was, and a spectacular super hero score it was too! James Horner should have scored the second one.
