I certainly hope so, I'll buy any Steiner releases that come out. There are so many wonderful Steiner scores that have never been officially released from the original master tracks. Just off-hand I'd love to get original tacks of Springfield Rifle, Now Voyager, Rocky Mountain, The FBI Story, The Big Sleep, The Hanging Tree, Rome Adventure etc etc, the list is huge. I know that old-timer PFK would buy a few too, lol!

And also Codi1949. Krakatoa and Niall from Ireland, you were reading in my mind! I was just putting order in old Steiner's materials and found extensive suites on acetate copies. some of them already issued on Cd (THE SEARCHERS, DISTANT DRUMS), but many others still waiting for a release. My attention went on ROCKY MOUNTAIN and DALLAS, of which I found transcriptions on Sony Mini Discs coming from reel-to-reel tapes. After correction of the pitch, I found ROCKY MOUNTAIN about 44 mins. DALLAS was around 19 min, but I have to control the pitch, timing with precision the sparse (and this time helpful) "tics". Two 1950's westerns with Steiner on Flynn and Cooper!!! A dream! Who wouldn't buy them? I'd certainly buy them my friend! There's wonderful music in Rocky Mountain, I've always enjoyed that film too. Similiarly, Springfield Rifle starring Gary Copper has fantastic music. Here's hoping that some more Max Steiner music will emerge from the vaults soon.

Now I know why my great Grandfather left Ireland in 1872! Good choices Niall. I especially would like to see The Hanging Tree and Springfield Rifle. But of course I'll buy any new Max Steiner! Ray said a few months back that he and BYU are working on some Steiner CDs and there have been delays etc. He also said: "Lawyers!" I also get the feeling WB is slow to deal with. Still, as I have mentioned before only BYU has really given us any Steiner CDs right from the soundtrack, and they have been slow or quiet in recent years. The Morgan/Stromberg team have given us great new recordings, but they might not be able to continue their fantastic series. If some labels want to do Steiner I would suggest westerns if at all possible. At 2,000 copies Shane sold out and Gunfight At The OK Corral has less than 60 left! Doug at Intrada recently said their Rio Bravo is doing great and quickly sold out the first pressing, they are pressing more. We need more Max Steiner!

Talking about Steiner westerns I would also add A Distant Trumpet but I doubt anything survives apart from the main theme. Well, in 2004 Ray Faiola wrote here "we will definitely do A DISTANT TRUMPET on BYU": http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=21791&forumID=1&archive=1 So normally the tapes should exist at Warners, but it is strange that nothing has happened regarding this score throughout all these last 10 years.

I'm not always wild about Steiner, but I'd spring for a reissue of The Flame and the Arrow with improved sound... Yavar

To update, and add some titles to what I said earlier, I'd especially love to get any of these from the original mastertapes if they still exist. These are films of which I particularly remember enjoying the music when I watched from time to time. The Life of Emile Zola(1937) Jezebel(1938) They Made Me A Criminal(1939) Virginia City(1940) City For Conquest(1940) A Dispatch from Reuters(1940) Santa Fe Trail(1940) Captains of the Clouds(1942) Now Voyager(1942) Passage to Marseille(1944) Saratoga Trunk(1946) The Big Sleep(1946) Rocky Mountain(1950) Springfield Rifle(1952) So Big(1953) Come Next Spring(1955) Bandido(1956) Fort Dobbs(1958) The Hanging Tree(1959) The F.B.I Story(1959) Rome Adventure(1962) A Distant Trumpet(1964)

I, too, would welcome more original Steiner tracks, from any period (each decade seems to have its own unique musical sound). Some of my own personal wants: THE ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN THE MIRACLE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA SPRINGFIELD RIFLE KING RICHARD AND THE CRUSADERS (Epic score - a great one!) HELEN OF TROY ESCAPADE IN JAPAN ALL MINE TO GIVE (It has one of Steiner's best finales. I applaud CH-CD's vote for this score.) and just about any of the unreleased 1960s scores: PARRISH A MAJORITY OF ONE ROME ADVENTURE (if it exists) SPENCER'S MOUNTAIN (Please!) A DISTANT TRUMPET YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE, and yes, even: TWO ON A GUILLOTINE Yes, I know that theme for the bunny can get annoying, but this score is historically important as Max's last, and contains some great stuff, such as the whole opening pre-credit sequence/Main Title, the nightmare sequence and the climactic fight scene between Caesar Romero and Dean Jones. I would love to have this score. I realize that ESCAPADE IN JAPAN ans ALL MINE TO GIVE are probably gone, being RKO films, whose holdings seem to be irretrievably lost. But, who knows? Were those films recorded at RKO or elsewhere? The distinct reverb applied to the ALL MINE TO GIVE music seems to indicate that the film was mixed at Warners, who picked up the distribution of a few of RKO's last films. Does Warners have any of those tracks? Plus, ESCAPADE IN JAPAN was eventually released by Universal-International. Is there any chance those tracks might be at Universal? It's a shame Warners transferred their pre-1960s stereo stuff to mono safety copies, then dumped the stereo masters. We will now be deprived of hearing those great 1950s scores (by Steiner or anyone else) in stereo, except while watching DVDs of those films. But, as I recall, some of the 1960s stuff was still still extant in stereo. (Ray, you're probably the guy who can tell us what is still in existence.) But at least we might get KING RICHARD in mono. At any rate, I say, "Yes please, more Steiner CDs."

For me, it's The Big Sleep and Key Largo, whether original or newly recorded. Big Sleep especially always seemed to me a good candidate for a re-recording, as it's one of the archetypal film noirs and also probably the biggest Bogie/Bacall films. I'm not nearly as a big an afficianado of Steiner as others here (though I almost always enjoy his music in the films), but I would love to hear every minute of these two. Or just Big Sleep!

I will also second THE BIG SLEEP and KEY LARGO.
