I've always wondered about this -- In The Andromeda Strain (1971) David Wayne plays a character named Charles Dutton, which is the same name as the character he played in a short-lived TV series around the same time called The Good Life. In the book on which the series is based the character is named Dutton but his first name is different (Jake, if I remember right) and I don't recall any character by that name in Crichton's novel on which Andromeda Strain is based. The movie and TV series involved different writers, so it seems odd that the same character name would show up in both and for the same actor. To add to the oddity, Kate Reid, who co-stars with Wayne in Andromeda Strain, allegedly played his wife in the first pilot for Good Life but was replaced when it went on the air as a series. And to really get interesting, IMDB claims that David Wayne has the same birthday as actor Charles S. Dutton. So if you're a conspiracy theorist who has too much time on your hands (and don't they all?), see what you can make of this.
