RE Charlie and The Chocolate Factory review:
"The John August script adheres more closely to Dahl than the ‘70s perennial...."
No it doesn't. Its backstory for Willy Wonka is utterly alien to Dahl's work and sensibility and causes the end of the movie to go down a path of treacly sentiment entirely absent in ANYTHING Dahl ever wrote.

Andy, I for one LOVED PLAGUE DOGS! I have only seen it on the mediocre DVD release, but wow - what a powerful film, and a spot-on critique against animal experimentation. I found the plot quite compelling, the eponymous dog characters enormously sympathetic - and what an ending! Bleak, yes, but tragic, heart-breaking, moving, and unforgettable.
I haven't read the book, but here's hoping this amazing, courageous animated film also benefits from the Criterion treatment!
