After being happy with my Up Art lp,cd,Silva Sreen, and the unmentiables. It,s time for the complete score from the Meastro.INTRADA you are my last hope.
What i like to point out is that the track "The Fearies" is maybe the original ,and the filmversion is an alternate. It should be rerecorded,if it,s not on the recording sessions.

I'd love to have the cues with Mia Sara's vocals on CD. What's on the album is nice, but not nearly as good as her performances.

I'm still longing to hear the uncut version of The Unicorns, particularly for that beautiful French Horn bridge mid-cue which is clearly heard in the film, but absent from all album releases. Still surprised no one else has mentioned it given how anal most Goldsmith fans are about missing music. :-)

There are a couple of moments that are audible in the European cut and Director's edition that aren't on the existing expansion (I have the Silva edition), and several other portions that are clearly alternate takes. On the whole, I am satisfied with the current version of the score, but if a complete edition were to materialize, I would definitely get it.

The 76 minute CD I prepared for Silva Screen has every last note of music that was on the tapes stored for safety by engineer Mike Ross....no other tapes exist. Can't you be happy with 76 minutes of score?????

Then to get the full score we need to go after Mike Ross...

No...the only tapes that exist of LEGEND are the ones I used ... and I used every bit of music on those tapes....

I was just joking. That's why I used the winky face for my post. There needs to be a font for facetious remarks (and another for sarcasm while we're at it).

That's awful about the studio closing. How many works have been lost to happenings like that? More than I care to think about.

If no other tapes exist, where is the unreleased music that is "around" coming from?

(eg. the alternate fairy dance for one, which is not coming from the deleted scene on the DVD/Bluray)

The unreleased music that I've heard (quite a few years ago) sounds AWFUL--like, BEYOND awful, probably the worst-sounding thing I've ever heard. So if anything's out there it must be some 10th generation cassette dub or something. Maybe there's something out there I haven't heard but James' statement about the status of the tapes sounds correct to me. Of course I'm a Goldsmith fan and no, we are never satisfied until we have everything that existed as well as everything that didn't. smile

Yes YES! I want the music he didn't think of writing. I want Jerry slurping his coffee. Everything I tell you EVERYTHING!

Maybe if possible a rerecording of the unreleased tracks should be amazing.
Or a new rerecording of Jerry Goldsmith's intended complete Legend score.

I'm happy with Silva Screen issue. Though it could use better cover art. How bout that cover peeps?

Well at the end of this thread I surmised that asking James might be the best course of action, and now we have his answer:
http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=93939&forumID=1&archive=0

For those curious to get more detailed info on what is missing, there's this:
http://www.figmentfly.com/legend/music4.html

I guess now we just have to petition James to start a Legend complete re-recording Kickstarter so he can see just how much demand there is for the complete score!

And I know purists will disagree, but I for one would love it if acoustic substitute solutions were found for a lot of the synth elements of this particular score. Sometimes I love Goldsmith synths but for this one I feel he went a bit too far and it hurt his amazing composition...

I,m in!
I disagree about the synth parts tough,i like everything from it.Jerry made it just perfect to my ears.
But i agree with you ,if it,s going to be rerecorded, this score still sounds great even without the synth.

We all may remember when Prometheus recorded David Newman's arranged suite of Jerry Goldsmith's RED PONY a couple of years back ... from what I remember he arranged a suite from LEGEND that included "Hall of Columns". It would be great if they could record that suite on one of their upcoming Goldsmith Projects ... smile

I have also been a proponent of the "complete" score of LEGEND. I doubt that this hasn't been sought by any of our beloved labels; after all, it is a Goldsmith title and one of his best scores. Back in the days of 2002 Varese Sarabande was slated to release LEGEND: THE DELUXE EDITION. Would this release have contained "new" music? For some reason it was cancelled and ended up being reissued by Silva.

Who knows what may crop up in the future....

As far as I can remember Varese announced a release where in fact Silva Screen actually owned all the rights in the Goldsmith score as it was purchased from Filmtracks, the publishers, and Sydney Sax was paid an extra amount for the extra music that the National Phil performed that was not on the original OST LP....

Then who the heck is it? The liner notes don't give credit to a vocalist, at all (or a chorus for that matter, but I assume it's contracted the same as the orchestra).

Given this is easily in my top five Goldsmith scores I'd love to see anything in the way of a release, be it a rerecording or a complete release (if there is actually more...)

That is interesting! Did Varese jump the gun before the rights were cleared? And does Silva still own the rights to it?
