Nine Oscars in 1958, eleven the next year. You'd think that mighty M-G-M was on a roll. Yet Miklos Rozsa described a "smell of decay" at the studio during those years. Shows how little the Oscars can mean, even in the limited context of studio strength. M-G-M was already on a very steep downward slope.
