It's a shame that the digital version of THE RIGHT STUFF isn't available at any price in the UK. I would certainly snap that one up.

PS: SALE ENDS MARCH 3rd!

I see that it's on iTunes as well. Any easy way to get list on itunes?

By the way I'm really like that Varese Sarabande gets digital media. The playlists on spotify and beats, the sales on iTunes and Amazon, and the new web site.

All your doing Peter?

HECK NO! To do all this awesomeness takes a great team and there are several of us trying our best at Varèse. I have been doing the Facebook since October 2014 and Spotify and Beatsmusic playlists and offering suggestions/opinions here and there as does everyone else at Varèse.

What's funny, I make these playlists up and then go home and re-listen to all this great music. It's also hard to decide WHICH track(s) to include in different playlist. For example, our newest playlist, ROMANCE. What cue do you include from a classic like SOMEWHERE IN TIME? I decided on the second to last cue, WHIMPER, but it was hard to decide. Luckily knowing their back catalogue so well has been such a help.

We also appreciate all the feedback, good and bad about the website as YOU guys are going to be the ones using it.

I'm one SMALL part of Varèse and I'm truly honored to be there and I take GREAT pride in working there. How can you not when you are and have been a fan of the company for over 30 years!

Peter, do you know why the Varese catalog is no longer available on eMusic? Was it a matter of Varese's digital distributor ceasing their relationship with eMusic or Varese's own decision? It was great to be able to buy VS stuff there at eMusic's "club" prices (usually 6 or 7 bucks per release).

I bought Born Free (cond. Talgorn) in this current sale, thanks for the heads up Neil!

eMusic went "indie" again, and is surely going out of business, so the Varese catalog isn't a possibility anymore.

Peter,
The same sale is going on in iTunes so why is it so poorly advertised? Went to Varese web site and you could never tell.

Is there any way to get list or grouping of titles on iTune that are on sale? Mean while in a iTunes. Right now have to go to Amazon to get list.

You could have listed on web site digital sale titles and had links to both Amazon and iTunes per title.

Shaun, I suspect you're right about eMusic's longterm existence, but the "Major Labels" they parted with in the recent restructure were the really big boys (UMG, Sony/BMG, Warner). Varese is a large indie like Harmonia Mundi or Chandos and there are plenty of that stratum of labels still on eMu.

But Varese is distributed by UMG and has been for a long time, right?

For the physical domain, yes. But I seem to recall their digital distro being handled by another entity (The Orchard maybe?)

I can't find a reference at the moment.

Excellent idea, I will pass this along and see what can be done! I do know that some titles that are out of print on our website have next to them, at least on some, the iTunes link to buy them so that helps a little.

A very nice sale. I had bought The Right Stuff's physical CD when it came out, but sold it when the album presentation just didn't knock me out.

Later regretted it.

The MP3 album for 4.99 does me quite well.

Pass on to Varese this is a wonderful idea. Also, maybe if the can offer digital releases of more back catalog stuff...maybe before the UMG years, if they still have rights to the older albums.

EXCELLENT idea, I certainly will pass this along. Was this explained in the liner notes of THE RIGHT STUFF as to why the album was short? I could have sworn it was mentioned that the LP original album was the only thing that survived or maybe I'm miss remembering things. I believe the CD was exactly what Bill Conti put together for an album, that sadly never happened until VSR released it.

This sale is only for the USA. I have talked with our guy at Varèse and hopefully we can work out future sales to other locations other than the USA.

Right, the Varese CD is Conti's version. I would have preferred a more comprehensive album, hell even with the Mancini and classical music licensed and included. I made my own big grin

There are a few older pre-UMG Varese albums on iTunes, I recall JN Howard's Off Limits being one. It'd be interesting to see what VS still owns and could offer digitally.

I've come to really appreciate album presentations over the last few years, but this one was just horribly conceived. Reversing track orders and bad cross-fading. Leaving so much great music out for military marching band music. I really hope the masters exist and we can get a complete release.
