I liked the first score, but I never played it a lot, outside of a few key cues. Still, you're right: First sequel and it will be interesting to see how he revisits the material.
Some composers are happy to kind of reuse sections from the earlier score... others ignore the first score almost completely and just do something totally different. Between this, SPECTRE and FINDING DORY, I guess we'll find out what Newman scoring a sequel is like!
Sorry... my mistake: Amazon (US) clearly lists the artist as ALFRED Newman - not Thomas. I don't think I've ever heard of a father replacing a son on a sequel score before, particularly when he's already been dead for 45 years.
He could literally just copy and paste the score from the first one into this, just changing the titles, and no one would ever notice. Even people who listened to the original.
Hey hey... low blow, Shaun. There's actually a lot of really interesting material in MARIGOLD HOTEL: EPISODE I. Not really to my taste, but it's still interesting.
While the first CD was quite hit and miss with me, the high points were as gorgeous as anything I'd heard from Newman. His blending of the Indian music with the West and his own style resulted in some really beautiful, soul-soothing music. This is of similar refrain, but by God, the gorgeous bits are just sublime. I could listen to those chords of beauty all day and all night. I fancy they will score a few sunrises and sunsets on my coming holiday journey.
I'm a sucker for Bollywood scores, Indian music/scores as well as blends of Indian and Western music. So you can imagine that this is very much up my alley. I've been enjoying it ever since it came out. But I have no interest in seeing the movie (or the first one, for that matter).
