Mustang Country, 1976, was the last film for Joel McCrea. It's a gentle film with spectacular scenery. I first saw this excellent film when it came out and it struck me just the right way.
McCrea was 71 when he did this film and looks robust and perfect for this role. McCrea looks like he did in the classic Ride The High Country yet 14 years had passed, he changed very little.

Lee Holdridge wrote the outstanding score with a touching theme that runs throughout the film. The main title music and photography are just beautifully done. Holdridge is an excellent composer with a great gift for melody, a modern day Victor Young.

If any labels are reading this, any chance for a CD?

For those who are interested, the film is now on youtube. It's a beautiful wide screen print of the film. Enjoy!

Yes, PFK we can always count on Lee Holdridge for beautiful, melodic music. I also would love to have a CD of this score. Our best hope would be Intrada at the moment seeing that MUSTANG COUNTRY was a Universal release. I wish there were more labels with access to the Universal vault.

Kev should show up here with his love for Holdridge.

Always liked Joel McCrea in movies.

I've never seen this movie nor heard the music. Hope it plays on my western channel someday or that I can find a cue or two from the music.

As PFK stated, it's free on youtube. Check it out.

Private McGann reporting for duty SIR!!! (salutes) smile

Thanks for the info PFK.
This is a Holdridge score I've never heard.
Just watched the opening credits on youtube (via computer..I will watch the whole film on my telly, which has a youtube connection).
Lovely, lyrical (and quite typical) opening theme by LH.
That 'light pop' 70's sound permeates throughout and I just love the sound of those strings.
Some gorgeous scenery to chew on too, while Holdridge struts his stuff. Only missing some John Denver vocals.
Do you have the WINTERHAWK score CD? It's cut from similar cloth, albeit a bit more robust and dark.

This is a film definitely worth seeing. If you are on the internet you are almost there. Go to youtube and type in... mustang country. Seeing Joel McCrea in his last screen appearance, the scenery and most important of all , the score by Lee Holdridge make it all worthwhile. Yes, you can see the entire film for free.

Glad you enjoyed both film and score Cody. For nearly 40 years the film was not readily available to watch for the most part. Yes, McCrea, the scenery and the score all make this film well worth watching. To others, try to catch the film on youtube while it's free to watch and still available.

I hope a record label will try to issue this excellent Lee Holdridge score, if possible.

Kev, I got the Winterhawk CD today and just played it. It's a fine Holdridge score and I like it a lot. Thanks for the recommendation.

Did you get a chance to watch Mustang Country (for free) on youtube yet?
