FRIDAY, JANUARY 30

JURASSIC WORLD---Universal Pictures released information and art about the sequel's genetically-engineered, hybrid dinosaur Indominus Rex:

"We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World. The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered.
At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus’ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Giganotosaurus. Fearsome indeed.
Indominus' roar is estimated to reach 140-160db—the same as a 747 taking off and landing. And it can reach speeds of 30 MPH while confined to its enclosure. Come experience Indominus Rex for yourself beginning this summer. If you dare."

COWBOY NINJA VIKING---the JOHN WICK team of David Leitch and Chad Stahelski are in talks with Universal Pictures to direct the movie after star Chris Pratt approved the duo.

MAD DOGS---Jay Roach (AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY) will direct the Warner Bros. movie based on the James Grady novel about five CIA agents who escape from an insane asylum to hunt for a CIA traitor after they are framed for the murder of their psychiatrist. Grady wrote SIX DAYS OF THE CONDOR which was made into the movie THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR.

CRIMINAL MINDS---spinoff pilot underway about an FBI division which helps US citizens who encounter trouble abroad. Gary Sinise (FORREST GUMP) will play the head of the division, and Anna Gunn (BREAKING BAD) will play the division's attorney with international expertise.

MARVEL'S A.K.A. JESSICA JONES---Rachael Taylor (TRANSFORMERS) will play Trish Walker, a syndicated radio talk show host, who was Hellcat in the comic book.

PETE'S DRAGON---Karl Urban (STAR TREK) will co-star with Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard in the Disney remake of its 1977 movie.

EXTANT---Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the cast of the Halle Berry sci fy series and will play womanizing bounty hunter JD Richter.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE---Eddie Murphy confirmed he's appearing on the 40th anniversary special which airs on February 15.

THE WIFE---movie underway about a woman who leaves her husband the day before he is to receive the Nobel Prize for literature. Glenn Close, Frances McDormand, Jonathan Pryce, Christian Slater and Logan Lerman star.

2:22---movie underway in which a man relives the same terrifying events every day which always end at 2:22 pm. When he falls in love with a woman whose live is threatened by the repeat events, he must solve the mystery to save her life. Michiel Huisman (GAME OF THRONES) and Teresa Palmer (WARM BODIES) star.

SPARK---animated sci fi movie underway in which a monkey, a fox and a warthog team up to free Planet Bana from the ruthless Gen. Zhong. Hillary Swank, Susan Sarandon and Jessica Biel provide the voices.

Ha, I like that. Cowboy Ninja Viking, they should add, In Space, then they'd have it all covered.

It looks like I-Rex is flipping us off.

Looks like the predictable T-Rex-Raptor hybrid. Though I also expected it to have triceratops horns.

I don't know why they don't create new look dinosaurs more often. So many species of dinosaurs are still undiscovered, they could make one up, & it's bound to look like something who lived.

True we have only found a fraction of species that probably existed.

PETE'S DRAGON---Karl Urban (STAR TREK) will co-star with Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard in the Disney remake of its 1977 movie.

Why is this a thing?

SPARK---animated sy fy movie underway in which a monkey, a fox and a warthog team up to free Planet Bana from the ruthless Gen. Zhong. Hillary Swank, Susan Sarandon and Jessica Biel provide the voices.

I thought it was SyFy's first animated movie. And after Planet 51 and Escape From Planet Earth I would have thought producers would avoid SF cartoons with hot Jessicas doing voices* (Biel did the former as well, while the latter was Alba's first cartoon role).

*As opposed to non-SF ones (cf. Chastain in the last Madagascar entry).

CINDY LOVER:

It's supposed to be "sci fi" not "sy fy". I didn't realize the error until it was too late.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Wasn't Mickey Rooney also the number-one box office star in the world earlier in his career?

Why all the hubbub now? Redford was already in a cartoon. It was called Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

To take a liberty with a quote from THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PAKR "Based on this trailer, Making another sequel after the last movie is the worst idea in the long, sad history of bad ideas."

Didn't anyone ever see DEEP BLUE SEA, BLADE RUNNER, FRANKENSTEIN, the re-boot of GALACTICA? This film just reeks STUPID...

Also given the events of the last three films would would ever fund let alone Insure such a venture or take your family there in that Universe (Sorry that just the way I think).

I totally disagree with Ford.

Regardless of story arc or dinosaurs (I've never been particularly interested in dinosaurs), I've been absolutely STARVED for more JP over the last 14 friggin' years! Just to experience the atmosphere again. As such -- even though I'm critical of the whole genetically modified dino thing -- I think that will easily get swallowed up by the sheer pleasure of returning to the fictional world that was set up in 1993.

I hope JP movies (and maybe even tv shows?) will continue to come out for YEARS and YEARS!

As that's my favourite film of all time, and I've seen it maybe between 40-50 times and still get pleasure from it -- yeah, we're definitely opposite here! big grin

Just saw the "JW" Super Bowl commercial. (OMG, same initials as John Williams!) Looks utterly ridiculous.

I'm very excited for JURASSIC WORLD, it looks like a lot of fun! But my most anticipated movie is MAD MAX FURY ROAD! I'm a huge George Miller fan, and think it's really cool he's directing it himself. It looks incredible!
