This is such a lovely score. Worth the price for the two opening themes (Love Theme/Train Ride). The quality of the music leaves me in awe. Rich, lyrical, instantly memorable and unforgettable. It's only a short score on CD (with some classical/source cues added). A tad repetitive, but if you can write melodies like that...blast away! Amazingly, David in Berkely couldn't GIVE this CD AWAY recently to the folks around here, when he offered up this and a Jerry Fielding score! I'm unfamiliar with Hamlisch (always considered him a Broadway composer and I'm not that well up on his film scores) and I believe a lot of his score output has never been released, considering his fame (and fortune). I will have to delve into his music further. What think you of this score?
How do Damian. I haven't heard THE SWIMMER and it looks like it's a rare item now (maybe it's time for a re-issue/remaster). Ice Castles and The Way We Were seem easily available. I do have Mirror Has Two Faces and need to give that another go. I played the samples for Romantic Comedy but they didn't light my candle, so to speak.

Agreed, and lyrical is exactly how I would describe it. It evokes for SOPHIE'S CHOICE what I feel Elmer's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD evoked for that film, or Delerue's score for CRIMES FROM THE HEART. All gorgeous. (And David is a mensch for giving that up for free. What was the Fielding score?)
I think it was GRAY LADY DOWN or BEYOND THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE. The Fielding CD was sought after by a few FSMers, but no one even asked for SOPHIE'S CHOICE. If only they knew what they missed!
