Some cutting and frank responses there. I like his curt tone. He obviously writes good film music but isn't a huge fan of it overall. I like how he says the previous good ones ripped from all other music idioms, but a lot of the newbs are only channeling film music!

This reminds me of what happened with superhero comics artists in the late 80s - early 90s. We went from artists who took from all schools of illustration to artists who only took from the comics they'd read.

Why? Being well-rounded is important in any field. If your only frame of reference is the narrow field you're working in, your work is unlikely to be particularly interesting or inspired.
