Some cutting and frank responses there.
I like his curt tone.
He obviously writes good film music but isn't a huge fan of it overall.
I like how he says the previous good ones ripped from all other music idioms, but a lot of the newbs are only channeling film music!

Enormously talented ppl really straddle genius and madness! I just enjoy their work, and ignore their batshit crazy comments.

This reminds me of what happened with superhero comics artists in the late 80s - early 90s. We went from artists who took from all schools of illustration to artists who only took from the comics they'd read.

Why? Being well-rounded is important in any field. If your only frame of reference is the narrow field you're working in, your work is unlikely to be particularly interesting or inspired.

Yes, mastadge, that's exactly how he meant it. That solium took offense must mean that he also doesn't listen to enough music outside of this genre.
