A very foolish decision to restore it. Build a copy and make show the way the model looked originally, and keep the original the way it was: original. I will not be surprised when later generations will agree that this equals stomping all over an archeological dig. A very very foolish enterprise.

First off it wasn't in original condition. It was horribly "restored" many years ago. Improperly repainted and weathered. (other than the top saucer which was the only part that remained "original".) Many parts had to be replaced because they were lost or broken like the clear warp domes and senor dish. (from a previous restoration) In recent years the model was falling apart and the electronics no longer worked. The structure couldn't withstand the test of time or gravity much longer. The model was reinforced from the inside. This current restoration was done by experts using the latest technologies available, referencing unrepresented documentation of the filming model never seen by the public.
The sheer weight of the nacelles had eventually caused them to bow downward out of horizontal alignment with the saucer section. I could not tell from these pictures if the restorers had fixed that problem. They probably did--I just couldn't tell for sure.
