I am really enamored with David Holmes, he is an incredibly versatile musician and film composer yet doesn't work nearly enough. I was ecstatic to know of his work on the film, '71, and jumped at the chance to see the film and own this soundtrack. Firstly, it is a great film, likely the best I have seen out of the UK since Steve McQueen's Hunger. The score is a thrilling, often lyrical, and always engaging work. I was regularly reminded of John Murphy throughout some of the more aggressive guitar-centric moments. All of that praise aside, the presentation of this album is a let-down. Instead of the 15 individual tracks which one can find listed at numerous sites advertising the album, this and other presentations are one complete track, totaling the complete 35 minute runtime. I always enjoy listening to an album complete, and especially one that only takes half an hour (and this one I especially dig) but it is unfortunate that I am unable to pull out some the individual pieces to listen separately or add to a playlist. On top of those complaints, the iTunes download did not include a digital booklet, which after having the joy of getting so many (my recent favorite being the one for Jonny Greenwood's Inherent Vice) felt particularly frustrating. Has anyone else been able to hear this one? Has anyone even seen this film?

I saw 71 last spring. Amazing film, very reminiscent of Paul Greengrass's BLOODY SUNDAY. The score is really beautiful, I keep meaning to pick it up.
