I've asked the techies to reboot. Again.

David, this board is constantly dying for several years now! The software is way too old. But Lukas told us that there is no money for new software and that he does not like to give it up because of linkings to SAE, the main FSM site and so on. A reboot will perhaps solve the "problem" for a short period of time, but it's not a solution at all.

I'd contribute to a Kickstarter campaign to acquire new software for this board.

The reboot seems to have had a positive effect.

I know, but rebooting is all we've got, so it helps for a little while at least.

As I've said before, I think Lukas should indeed do a Kickstarter campaign to get the funding for an upgrade. Just look at the MOONRAKER success (even though other issues prevented that from happening). I know there's plenty of folks here who would contribute, and I assume you don't need $25.000 for the job! smile

(any surplus after the upgrade could go into an account handling the monthly fees -- but running a site is NOT free for the host, nor should it really be. I pay plenty myself for my celluloidtunes.no domain, for example).

It's more than just cost of new software, it's also the increase in overall monthly costs that would occur after an upgrade.

All things considered, I would rather have slow FSM than no FSM. Can I get an amen on that? big grin

Feels good now. Like the board took a wonderful dump and now is feeling like a New Man, Board!

Thanks!

And indeed AMEN!

Cue Maestro Goldsmith and Sidney! Or should I say Jester?

Jester Hairston who sang the song for Sidney who lipped it.

Amen indeed,
And we should remember to be ever thankful to Lukas Kendall without whom this board wouldn't exist in the first place!

Chris.

Hey, he played Spence the other night in To Kill A Mockingbird!
(watched it on TCM for the 500th time)

Is that Jester who says "Stand up, your Father's passing"? Awesome stuff!

I hear that MOCKINGBIRD Pictures got a nice little score.

I'm 57 years old and I still cry like a baby during the finale with Elmer's music.

The acting, the visuals, Elmer's music and the writing of the scene with Voice Over at the end has got to be one of the most powerful mixtures of all those elements in filmmaking and is truly Movie Magic. It overwhelms me every time!

Dang, I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it.

oy me too and I'm 58

No, that was Rev. Sykes who said that. Spence is Tom Robinson's father on the porch when Atticus goes there after the trial. Bob Ewell calls him "Boy". mad

Why not move to one of those companies who provide the hosting for forums themselves?

This site looks very bespoke, but there are several "standard" forum formats out there that other sites use. All the historic data here can be migrated across as well

Then you don't have to worry about the maintenance of hardware and software yourself, and only have to pay a monthly fee to the forum host.

Maybe the labels could chip in for those costs, seeing as this board is the central gathering point for suppliers and customers.

Personally I love the unique look the forum has. It'd be very sad to see it move to a 'standard' looking forum.
