Well... that's all very nice. But! Where is the 5-disc deluxe set of the COMPLETE "South Pacific" with every last note recorded by Alfred Newman in true 6-channel Todd-AO stereo!?!? WHERE IS IT! Rant over.

Rant over. Or to be carried from hereon by me and Pulliam. Oh how we waxed lyrical (heh heh) on an old thread. If you know where the masters are, enlighten me, and I'll bring Concord and Sony Music to the table, but will have to remove all sharp and blunt objects from the room first.

It seems strange that the masters have gone missing. I know the scoring was done at Fox, but it was all done for Magna (the R&H production arm) and may have gone to that organization. Does no one at R&H have a clue where they are? While liner notes are not true indications of anything, the ones on the soundtrack LP assert that Richard Rodgers was very happy with what Newman and his team did with the score. Yes, Howard, it's all old thread hysteria...but what a coup it would be should those masters ever turn up!!!

When, back in 1964, i saw a re-release of SOUTH PACIFIC in 70mm, it opened a whole new world for me. This is one of my all-time favorite films and the news that someone is, finally, perusing information/recordings etc. for an expanded soundtrack release is wonderful and hopeful news to my ears! I'm 68 years old now and have been waiting for a very long time. Whatever you may think of this film, it's sound design and scoring were, and still are, superlative! In fact, I'd say astounding considering the age of the film. That lush, beautiful score, incredibly arranged and orchestrated, pouring out through stereo speakers is still thrilling! Whatever efforts to locate the materials needed for such an expanded release are highly appreciated!
