Just bought the Original Laserdisc Special Edition Releases of 1776 DELUXE RESTORED CUT VERSION (Sealed) and LOST HORIZON Burt Bacharach ISOLATED SCORE TRACK SPECIAL EDITION.

Paid total of $ 54.99 which includes shipping.

Did I do good?

How did that typo of Mr Bacharach's name on the laserdisc cover get through to the printing stage!

The original release prices of those discs were $44.95 for 1776 and $59.95 for LOST HORIZON. A few years back, I paid $80 for LOST HORIZON alone. That was just before the DVD came out. That DVD and the subsequent Blu-ray have undoubtedly depressed the price for the laserdisc.

Yes you did.

If you ever manage to find the Laserdisc of Tom Sawyer with the John Williams music doc then let us know.

Hell, I'd pay $54.99 just to own a sweater vest like the one Michael York has on in that Lost Horizon cover!

I had no idea people still bought Laserdiscs or, in fact, owned Laserdisc players. It's not like with LPs, I presume, where some older records may actually still be worth something. It's more like an obsolete medium (like the VHS) in the day and age of DVDs and BluRays, so I'm surprised it's still catches so much money on the secondary market! Fascinating.

I think it has to do with getting special features not on any other release, as well as the isolated scores which were a regular thing on LD. VHS, obsolete? Hell yes! But you know what? Ive been tracking down some titles on VHS because unfortunately some titles were horribly re-cut or changed for their DVD/BluRay release, and the only way to get the theatrical version is to hunt down a VHS (or LD if it's that old)

Yes, I indeed did get these for the Rare Special Features and if the seller also had the TOM SAWYER Sherman Bros./John Williams Laserdisc with the Bonus John Williams materials I would be thrilled. Unfortunately he did not.

They did finally release a Restored Cut Special Edition DVD of 1776 which probably actually has more stuff than the Laserdisc. Now I have both.

Ah yes, I hadn't thought about the extra material (I thought this was mostly duplicated on DVDs and BluRays anyway).

But I'm still impressed this stuff is in circulation!
