I'm directing this documentary. While I'd love to give you folks some additional information on the project, I'm going to wait until next month, when we begin shooting. Our first interview will feature a very interesting man who knows a great deal about classic cinema and is also a great fan of film scores. I'm also happy to say that Dorothy Herrmann, Mr. Herrmann's daughter, has agreed to be interviewed for the film, and I greatly look forward to speaking with her in the near future. We have a number of interesting people lined up to speak about their work with Mr. Herrmann and/or their love of his music. I consulted with Mr. Smith via email prior to starting this project and he was extremely generous in offering advice to me. Down the road, when my team moves to the West coast, I'd love to get an interview with him. I carry my paperback copy of "Heart at Fire's Center" to every production meeting, with its highlighter marks, post-it notes and all. Thanks to those who have supported this project so far. I look forward to showing and telling you more within the next month or so. Thanks for the info-good luck with the project & I look forward to seeing it

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm open to any and all suggestions on this project, especially if they're coming from film music aficionados like yourselves. Re: Friedkin, Here's an interesting interview with him from 2013. He mentions his encounter with Herrmann around 10:25. http://www.kcrw.com/news-culture/shows/the-treatment/william-friedkin-the-friedkin-connection According to Friedkin, Herrmann walked out of the screening of THE EXORCIST and told the director: "Well, I might be able to help you with this piece of crap." I laughed out loud at Friedkin's retelling of that.

In addition to James Fitzpatrick for his upcoming Obsession recording, I'd suggest you also get in touch with the gang at Tribute Film Classics, who have recorded more Herrmann scores than anyone else besides Herrmann. They would give you some great interview material I'm sure, and I would think they might also have some session footage you can include, to show how his music continues to live on in multiple places: http://tributefilmclassics.com/catalog/ Yavar

Good suggestion James. I hope this documentary takes time to document relationships and time periods in his career which are often overlooked. (I'll bet Lukas Kendall could supply some interesting extra research done for the FSM release of It's Alive, for example.) They may not be as famous but they are certainly very interesting! More coverage of his work writing original music for radio (and television) would be very welcomed too! Yavar
