FRIDAY, JANUARY 16

SHARKNADO 3---Syfy confirmed that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will return for the third movie in the franchise which is set in Washington, DC and expands along the East coast. SHARKNADO 2 was the most-watched original movie in Syfy history with 3.9 million viewers. SHARKNADO 3 will premiere in July.
Also, Syfy is developing a six-hour miniseries based on the Charles Wilson sci fi novel SPIN. The script is by Jim Uhls (FIGHT CLUB).

SUICIDE SQUAD---Tom Hardy has left the movie due to schedule problems. Jake Gylllenhaal is being considered as his replacement.

SUPER BOWL XLIX---Idina Menzel (FROZEN) will sing the National Anthem for Super Bowl XLIX on February 1. John Legend will sing "America the Beautiful".

KONG: SKULL ISLAND---JK Simmons (SPIDER-MAN, LAW & ORDER) commented on the King Kong prequel movie, “When it first came to my attention, ‘There’s interest in you for a new 'King Kong', I thought, ‘Okay… Why? But then I met with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who’s going to be directing it and John Gatins, who’s writing and Tom [Hiddleston]. Jordan was just so passionate and so smart. It’s such an interesting, new take on it. It’s set in Detroit in 1971, which is where I grew up. We’re going to shoot it in Detroit during baseball season, so I’ll be able to go to Tigers games! There’s a lot to like about this movie!"

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR---co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo confirmed Scarlett Johansson is returning as Black Widow.

THE ACCOUNTANT---Jeffrey Tambor will co-star with Ben Affleck in this movie about an accountant who moonlights as a hitman. Tambor will play a mob accountant who mentors a younger accountant played by Affleck. Anna Kendrick, Jon Bernthal and JK Simmons also star.

GHOSTBUSTERS---director Paul Feig said about the all-female reboot movie, "To me it's such a New York movie and the biggest sin would be to pull it out of there. I just love New York and, selfishly, I just want to shoot in New York." He added, "We're not recreating the old movie, but we want to do just enough fun nods that the fans will go, ‘Oh, okay, they're acknowledging that the other movie existed.'"

THE ROYALS---E! renewed the Elizabeth Hurley series for Season 2 before Season 1's premiere on March 15.

What Feig doesn't realize is that those "fun nods" take the audience out of the movie. I don't know where the notion that they show fans that the filmmakers care came from, but it needs to go away. Fast.

As does this whole movie.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND---"It’s set in Detroit in 1971, which is where I grew up."

Me confused. Surely Jackson's remake was set in 1933.

I took a look at the trailer. It's just recycled shots from Kong-05.
But what struck me as funny was that for the shot of the pseudo-raptors scrambling up the steep embankment, there was an attempt made to digitally remove Denham and his crew... which is to be expected. Except it didn't work very well--it looks like the raptors are chasing cloaked Predators!
Made me chuckle. big grin

....I'm easily amused.

The worst thing I read was that Feig wants to make an R-rated movie but will do PG-13 for families.

Really, Paul?! You'd rob a generation of young children the opportunity to discover something just like we did 30 years ago?

He said he likes making R-rated movies because it's "more realistic." I'm no prude at all but no one curses as much as they do in his/Apatow's flicks. All the characters start to sound the same after a while and the humor is all one type of humor.

Yeah cause ghosts, spirits and zombies are really realistic! LOL!
I'll call the first "fun nod". It will be the devil dog statues.

'Fun nods' will be the least of this film's problems.

That, more than anything else was when it became obvious he is clueless. It is an idiotic rationalization for using lots of cursing, pointless cursing.

There is no way this will end well.

'Fun nods' will be the least of this film's problems.

They really can drag a movie down. Predators was a decent entry in the Predator series, but the constant references to the others (and even Aliens) were as distracting as it gets.

These filmmakers need to realize that we're fans too. We reference these movies in our little group of film-obsessed friends. We don't need it during an actual movie. Just make a good one!

That said, Feig won't be able to. I've seen his films. It's a shame though, because Freaks and Geeks was great. I guess that just means he was in good hands for the show.
