Wait, Burke and Virdon are different characters? smile I'm mortified to admit I did transpose those names. They always seemed to use their first names on the show, but this is a pretty epic mistake even by my standards. I always thought of Ron Harper as Burke! My apologies to all Apes fans and you can just ignore me going forward.
In regards to the character of Fauna, she is referred to as "Farna" in all the music track cues so that's how that change cropped up. I believe that's something that was actually discussed because you cannot change the track titles due to publishing/copyright concerns, so we stuck with the name used in the track titles.

Jeff, don't be mortified at all. Stuff happens, and we all do it. No big deal. For me it takes nothing away from this set.

Don't worry, Jeff. Keep up your good work.
I prefer reading your inspired notes than the dull ones by Eric Greene.

Ron Harper does indeed seem more like a Burke than a Virdon. And anyway - Virdon...??? What kind of a name is that?! When I was a kid, I always heard "Burton" and thought that was the character's name. Harper is definitely a "Burton".

Exactly. I didn't even know they had names.

Who is this Earl Hagen guy credited on the backcover? Is he related to composer Earle Hagen?

Mine finally arrived yesterday. Haven't had time to listen to much of it yet, so I have no comments. I am curious though; given that this is a TV show now over forty years old, not a success, and a minor cult within a larger, wildly uneven franchise, just what is the average age of those that have bought or are interested by this release? Though the '68 original movie is my favorite, this release really strikes me as a rather obscure object of desire.

As a kid, I watched the series in the late Seventies on re-run.

I wonder if LLL has included that Intrada "Easter Egg" music?

At first I thought this was referring to the dreaded "Ape Shuffle" which my Intrada certainly does not contain. Do I assume you were just referring to the "wild" recordings of the horn? And does anyone know if the new LLL includes this or not?

I guess it helps that it has "Planet of the apes" in the title. I wasn't born when this series aired nor for any of the first five movies, I probably saw the Simpsons parody on POTA first before I saw any of the original movies but once I got into soundtracks that changed quickly (a certain Jerry Goldsmith helped in that regard and also the fact its a well known franchise). I bought the original movies on DVD (love parts 1,2 and 4 mostly) and later got the TV series on R1 DVD, ok it's not great television but it was a continuation of the Apes universe that was interesting. I think by the time I watched the series the Intrada was OOP and it took me a while before finding a copy. I loved it and regretted not having jumped on it when it was still in print but being unfamiliar with the tv show at the time, it was not a priority.

My order at SAE has shipped so I'm looking forward to this set.

I watched the series in first run and never saw any of them again, but even though the shows were - to my then preteen mind - utter crap, I still noticed the bold and interesting music (though I could hardly picture an orchestra playing the stuff).

BTW: the set is Über awesome!

So, does the LaLa version include the wild horn outtakes that were included on the Intrada?
