Could be wrong, but I think way back in the early stages of this project, Goldenthal was incorrectly listed as the composer on IMDB, probably because of his score for Heat, and that misinformation was then put into a thread title over here. I remember getting excited about that too, only to open the misleading thread and find my hopes dashed.

Probably a rumor. I'd replace the and symbol with a slash. Ross did his score earlier in 2014, Harry said he recorded 80 minutes in June (or maybe that was July); a full score. Ross = victim number one. Ryan Amon recorded an unknown amount in August.

Standard Mann proceedure: plow through two composers and settle in a third with one or more providing additional apart from the final composer.

Standard Mann proceedure: plow through two composers and settle in a third with one or more providing additional apart from the final composer. Fine by me, it's his right as the director. Much as we all love scores, in the end they're only one element in a movie and they need to serve it. LAST OF THE MOHICANS works brilliantly with the work of two composers, and his other movies all bear his unmistakable mark, including their eclectic use of score (often from multiple people) and pop songs. Mann is a genius, and I am fine with whatever he settles on.

Anyone else excited about the new Michael Mann movie coming up? I certainly am However, I'm a bit skeptical, score-wise. Never been a big fan of HGW, and although I have appreciated Ross' work with Reznor, I still don't quite know what he's good for. Weird thing, however. I seem to remember either Goldenthal himself or someone online telling me that he was doing the new Mann film -- then known by the name CYBER. What gives? Definitely looking forward to the film, Mann is my favorite director. Composers may find him difficult to work with, but all of his films make great use of music. Besides his work with Reznor, Ross' scores for The Book of Eli and Broken City were both great. HGW can be a bit hit and miss, I have the feeling this score will see him in his Tony Scott-mode.

Anyone else excited about the new Michael Mann movie coming up? I certainly am. Seems like we're the only ones. I still can't believe a Michael Mann movie with an international star is getting dumped in January. I hope it's a better movie than the release date might suggest.

Excited about the film, yes! The score? No, not with these two composers involved.

Well, it looks terrible, which is painful to say. Hemsworth is horribly miscast. And why do they keep using that "You're dead meat" line in every trailer????

I actually think the trailer looks great. I can't wait for the big action sequence in Jakarta that Mann has talked about in interviews and that you can see in the trailer, seemingly involving a giant parade! I'm hoping for something along the lines of COLLATERAL, an elevated genre movie.

Yeah, I made videos in the woods with my friends in high school that looked more like a film than Public Enemies. What a mistake it was to make THAT digitally. I'm hoping to at least get a good smeary synthesizer sound out of the score, but I don't know who thought this movie was a good idea in the first place. Any movie about computers that doesn't feature Eddie Deezen in an above-the-title role is not worth its weight in celluloid.

Dear all, I would like it to be known for what it’s worth that the ‘score’ for Blackhat maybe credited to me, but contains almost none of my compositions. I attended the premiere of the movie at the end of last week and discovered, to my horror, music that shocked and surprised me…quasi emotional (synth) string pieces that I’d never heard in my life before. I knew of at least one other composer, a good one at that(!), that had put in months of work on this movie just as I had, but this appeared to me to be in addition to both our contributions. To be honest, I’m not sure, as I’m having a hard time understanding what I heard and why it was there and I can say nothing for certain except that I was not the author of most of what is now in the movie. I feel like I want to point this out for anyone who like me cares about these things, as my name is right there listed as the lead composer and one would expect that credit to mean something, but it doesn’t. And I do care about that. I therefore reluctantly join the long list of composers who have had their scores either sliced and diced mercilessly or ignored completely by Michael Mann. This is his film and these are his decisions and I do respect that, but see no reason to have people mistake this score for one that I composed, or in any way approved of musically. The 90 minutes of score that I did write and deliver is, as I’ve said, mostly unused. I would still encourage you to check out his movie, as you may enjoy it. Harry

As I've said over the years: If Mann asks you to score his film, you as which number composer you are and if he says you are number three, then say "Yes".
