Thank you all for taking the time to post, and for your lovely tributes. As in Brigadoon, my "day" has come to an end. But it was a special day---in numbers, anyway. I was 75 today---my "Diamond Jubilee". I always thought diamonds were THE gift for a "Diamond Jubilee" but I must be mistaken. I didn't get a diamond tiara or a diamond-encrusted Patek Philippe watch, or even a cheapo diamond stylus for my record player, though we did use some Diamond matches to light the fireplace as it got cooler this evening! Back in 1954, to celebrate the birthday of the invention of the incandescent light bulb, General Electric, and the various member groups of the electric power industry, commissioned "Gone With The Wind" producer David O. Selznick to produce a big 2-hour television special commemorating the occasion and depicting various aspects of "the American Way" in live-and-filmed skits and story sequences. Many big-name stars of the movie, television, and stage industries appeared as guest stars, and the various sequences were written by major screenwriters and directed by major film and tv directors. It was such a big production that it appeared simultaneously on all four television networks of the day (ABC, CBS, NBC, and DuMont). Called "Light's Diamond Jubilee", it was much talked about the next day, and it always stuck in my mind as a very special television event, though now probably a bit archaic as measured against the television product of today. And so, slightly 60+ years after that show, I am celebrating my special birthday, too. I am now as old as a light bulb was in 1954!!! ......and hopefully, no dimmer! Once again, a special thanks to all of you for your kind words.
