A seller from Amazon had it brand new for only 30 something dollars so I was finally able to pick up this score! I was bummed out when I had originally missed out on it. I've never seen the film, but I listened to samples of the score and immediately fell in love with it.

Now that my Christmas is winding down and I'm home I'm giving the CD a spin. So far there hasn't been one skip over track! I really love this score. I can picture the movie scenes in my head and like said, I've never even seen the movie. You really get a great feel on the dangerous wilderness Jerry Goldsmith seems to be going for. Along with the survival style feel the characters probably have in the movie. And then the dark spots where you can tell Anthony Hopkins is probably planning something dirty.

Does anyone else notice Klaus Badelt's (sp?) 2002 score to The Time Machine has hints of similarity to this one? I love both scores and picked up on it right away.

I'm really happy I finally picked up this score. What are your guys thoughts on it?

The Time Machine similarity has been commented on A LOT...The Edge was probably in the temp track for that.

And I agree with you that The Edge is a fantastic Goldsmith score.

The Ravine - good stuff.

And yes, Time Machine "borrowed" from The Edge.

Jerry Goldsmith in his element here. First heard the score on the Goldsmith Box set. Went nuts over the action track & the nature theme. Got the rare cd off ebay. Love the LLL expansion even more!

One of Goldsmith's best efforts from the 90's....superb main theme and bracing action/suspense material.

Yup that theme is so fantastic. And the rest of the stuff is very enjoyable as well. Glad to have this CD in my collection.

Gorgeous main theme, one of his best, but over all I didn't find the score particularly interesting.

The music is the best character in the movie, well aside from the bear.

I'd buy it all over again for improved artwork. Intrada?

Interesting to hear I'm not the only one who caught onto the similarities between this and The Time Machine. Maybe they did temp The Time Machine with music from The Edge, who knows. Still love what Klaus did for his movie.

The only problem with buying scores like this. It makes me miss the old school great music. The film scores of today never feel like they have their own identity or mix in well with their world most of the time. But I'm known for having a fondness for old things so who knows.

See the movie!

Indeed...it's a terrific film. Just too bad the Blu-Ray inexplicably cuts short the powerful final shot, causing Goldsmith's music to play out to a blank screen. confused

It does?? That's crazy! Of course, this is coming from Fox, who misformatted its own logo (and never fixed it) for the Die Hard Blu-ray.

You're right, it does. It fades early, before Hopkins lowers his head. Inexplicable as you say. And a tragedy - because the movie looks awesome in HD.

A great movie, and terrific Anthony Hopkins performance, and a terrific mature score for a mature picture. Some of Jerry's finest later work.

Yea, I also love this movie and score. It's a perfect thinking-man's adventure. Great dialogue, action, suspense, score, direction, photography, writing... The whole package just works. It's a movie I love to watch once or twice a year, and a score I play even more often.
