That's right. Chuck and Sophia were worried their haymaking would put the barn owners into hot water as they were supposed to have been banished by the king, or something. The music was their friend.

A finer film score than EL CID has yet to be written, a favorite of mine as well. I enjoy the splendid Tadlow recording, but want to put in a favorable mention for the Sedares Koch recording as well.

One of my favorite scores as well and the Tadlow rerecording is absolutely stunning. I only have to disagree about the Koch recording. That`s one of the worst rerecordings I have ever heard. An incredibly slow and lackluster performance, a terrible concert hall like recording which has none of the "directness" that this score definetely needs and it omits several important cues.
I remember how upset I was when I first heard it.

The issue with the sound on the Koch one isn't "concert-hall like" but rather "sounds like it was recorded in the next room syndrome" which plagued many digital recordings in the first 15 years or so of digital recording.

I will say this for the Koch recording… the extended concert arrangement for “Love Scene” is beautiful.

But otherwise, the performance is too leaden and the sound too distant for my taste. Give me either the Munich or Tadlow recordings any day.
