Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

THE LOFT

A Film by Erik Von Looy

Music Composed by
John Frizzell
(The Following, Ghost Ship,
The Reaping)

Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness) and James Marsden (2 Guns) star in the tense psychological thriller The Loft, the story of five married guys who conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city — a place where they can carry out hidden affairs and indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved. Paranoia seizes them as everyone begins to suspect one another. Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and marriages crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder in this relentless thriller.

John Frizzell, whose work can be currently heard weekly on The Following, provides an evocative, mysterious and tense score.

After a successful premiere at the Ghent Film Festival this October, The Loft will open stateside nationwide on January 23.

Nice to see Frizzell kicking around, I've always liked his stuff, but I can't help thinking this is probably
a misogynistic POS film. No good can come of this!

Given the title to Track #12, I suspect you're correct.

"The Macadonian Radio Symphonic Orchestra".

Man, cheapskate producers are REALLY reaching for deals on recording these days!

I'm still waiting for the likes of "The Estonian Film-Harmonic", "The Transylvania Sinfonia", "The Kyrgyzstan National Recording Orchestra", "The Turkmenistan All-star Players" or "The Greater South Dakota High School A-Players Recording Musician's Ensemble".

Bit I digest.

The actual premise does hold promise in a Hitchcockian high-concept way, but indeed we'll see if it becomes sexist nonsense, but I admit I am intrigued by the logline. I remember this was first announced years ago (the film I mean) but then seemed to disappear.

I'm still waiting for Frizzell to write a piece of music that speaks to me as much as "The Souls Ascend" from GHOST SHIP, except for the generic horror stinger at the very end of that cue.

Odd that it isn't mentioned that the film is a remake of a German one. The score to that version is (or was) available on MovieScore Media.

Awesome it was shelved on top of all of this!
Flix gonna rok balls, bro *high five*

I thought the title rang a bell - Wolfram De Marcos score on MSM is very good, Herrmannesque (ouch)
but not in a ripoff way - almost like a Kilar score too, as some cues are lengthy, allowed more breathing room. Think I'll go play that.....

Actually, a remake of a Belgian film, the highest grossing Belgian film, by the same director.

Belgian, not German. And there's also a Dutch version of this film. Both those film received rave reviews. Curious to see the American version. Hopefully they won't butcher it like the remake of The Vanishing.

Yes, it was originally a Belgian movie by the same director Erik Van Looy. Also interesting to note is that Matthias Schoenaerts plays the same role both in the Belgian as well as in the American movie.

I liked the original version and didn't find it a sleazy movie at all, more a psychological thriller. And I'd say it had more of a De Palma vibe than Hitchcock. I have not seen the American version but it finally got released this year after a long delay, not so sure that is a good sign. The reviews I read said it failed to match the performances of the original (though in all honesty that might also have to do with how the Belgian film critics regard American remakes). Frizzell also did the music for Van Looy's De Zaak Alzheimer.

Oops, I could have sworn it was Frizzell! Needless to say I don't own the score. But I will check out The Loft! smile

OK wait, so, Varese is keeping the old spine design on one side of the artwork and the new design on the other?

Aside from that, the blonde is cute and more John Frizzell is usually a good thing
