TUESDAY, DECEMBER 16

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---spoiler alert (see below).

STAR WARS: REBELS---Frank Oz will return as the voice of Yoda in the episode "Path of the Jedi" which airs on January 5. Yoda will be giving advice to Jedi Knight Kanan (Eddie Prinze, Jr.) on the planet Lothal. It's known if Yoda is in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, but director Terry Gilliam asked director Rian Johnson to bring Oz back as Yoda for EPISODE VIII, and Johnson replied, “You kidding? How could you not. How could you not!”

TIM BURTON---the BATMAN director was asked if he would like to direct another superhero movie, "Marvel, they have their thing and there's a certain formula to it all which seems to still be working, but how many times can you say 'you're wearing a funny costume' with the tights and stuff? That's been going on for twenty years now. Yes, we all know that superheroes are damaged individuals.
Maybe we need to see a happy superhero? I think there is [another superhero film in me], but I don't know. You think we need more superhero movies? It keeps on going. It's amazing how long it's been going for and it just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Some day people will get sick of it."
He said about Winona Ryder returning for BEETLEJUICE 2, "Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah. I worked with [Ryder], I hadn't seen her in awhile… and she was so great. I was so happy to see her. So those kinds of elements mean something to me. Michael [Keaton], and her… and that character, I just miss it, there's some freedom about that character that I love."

GRACEPOINT---Fox canceled the David Tennant series due to poor ratings.

THE WALKING DEAD---the spinoff series is set in Los Angeles and stars Cliff Curtis (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD).

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES---Evangeline Lilly commented on playing Tauriel in the sequel and its epic battles, "I thought I would be doing a hell of a lot more fighting than I did. Tauriel saw next to no action. She killed a couple of orcs on her way to save [deleted] and that was it."

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES---five candidates for the main female role, the love interest for a British soldier (Brendon Thwaites) are: Lucy Boynton, Alexandra Dowling, Kaya Scodelario, Jenna Thiam and Gabriella Wilde.

THE CIRCLE---Tom Hanks is the star/producer of this movie about a woman who starts work at Circle, the world's most powerful internet company, and discovers a sinister secret.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND---JK Simmons (SPIDER-MAN) will co-star with Tim Hiddleston this prequel movie to KING KONG.

THE BFG---newcomer child actress Ruby Barnhill will star in this Steven Spielberg movie based on the Roald Dahl children's book.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---reportedly, an early draft of the script has Superman helping Lois Lane out in the Middle East which creates an international incident because he is seen as a tool for the US. Also, Lois and Clark Kent are living together with Clark still working at THE DAILY PLANET.
Bruce Wayne arrives in Metropolis during the fight between Superman and Zod. He says to a villain, "I won't snap your neck, I'm going to take you to prison" but later threatens to break his back. During a fight with Doomsday, a character says "Superman will move the battle away from populated areas because he's a hero, and that's what heroes do."

Terry Gilliam?!? Is he butting into STAR WARS-related stuff now too? First he says how much he hates Steven Spielberg's movies, and now this. What a character. Still love his movies, though.

That was only one small detail out of several things that went terribly wrong with this third installment of the HOBBIT series (I actually liked the first two quite a bit).

TIM BURTON: "...I think there is [another superhero film in me], but I don't know...Some day people will get sick of it."

Some day?! I'm sick of all the superhero stuff already.

Me three... I'll be glad when the Marvel, et al, universe isn't even in the rear view mirror anymore.

I'm not watching them. Trouble is, I'm not watching much of anything cinema film wise as the kind of 'higher concept' fare that I like seems to have taken a back seat to over-cooked poor quality 'high concept' superhero junk.
