The movie probably won't be all that good -- looks very Emmerichy -- but Lockington's score for Peyton's previous film was one of the standout adventure scores of the last few years, full of heart and energy, so I'm really excited to hear what he whips up for this one? I'm hoping he gets to go more elegiac than Brian Tyler orchestral frenzy type of thing. . .
I also thought his JOURNEY 2 score was great and am looking forward to his music here. I have doubt it will be as overtly, erm, whimsical this time around, but my expectations are high all the same...
amazing how successful "The Rock" is at making such absolute garbage movies.
Lockington is good composer though
I don't mind The Rock. He's got sufficient charisma to carry most of the crappy movies and just enough chops to get real when the role requires it.
Yeah, he is likable for sure. I guess it is kinda the Bruce Willis effect, or - well trying to think of someone else personable that makes awful movies. Maybe Nick Cage, wow he has made lots of real stinkers.
Hopefully it will be more like Journey 2 and less like Percy Jackson 2. But I am not expecting miracles... still one of the scores on my list to look forward to next year.
It's a Water Tower release. There's a good chance it might be digital only. It was that way with Newman's The Judge. I wish that could have gotten an actual release too. Still Lockington's score sounds very promising based on the samples.
The movie probably won't be all that good -- looks very Emmerichy . . .
Cool, it looks very Emmerichy, I can't wait, I love these big disaster movies.
Same here. I dig disaster movies, and I think Emmerich is severely underrated. That being said, this doesn't look like it's Emmerich-level quality. Still going to see it, though.
The trailer I saw before Avengers 2 last week convinced me enough that it should be a blast on the BIG SCREEN!! Plus, what I've heard of Lockington so far has been enjoyable. So it's two pre-thumbs up from me right now...time will tell if they stay raised
I've gone through this a couple times and it's a pretty good listen. Not nearly as good as Lockington's Journey 2 score, but this has some good moments. Listening to it reminded me of a 90's James Newton Howard score. Thankfully he didn't use as many electronics in this as he did in the Percy Jackson score. I'm a fan of Lockington's scores. Journey 2 remains one of my favorite adventure scores, so it's tough for any of his scores to top that one, but I still recommend this one. It's a solid listen.
Argh, this sure as hell wasn't there Tuesday when it looked like MP3 or nothing Oh well.
The score is has a bit of the RC / Bourne feel, with the constant driving, sawing strings, but still Lockington has some good melodic tracks and lots of big action music, full bodied orchestral stuff with umm, lots of percussion
"Whew!...This is a hell of a film. It has everything - love, pathos, crises, high drama and awesome scenes!" -------------------------------- Haha. I now appreciate Roland Emmerich on a whole 'nother level.
I've always been a big fan of Emmerich, and I can tell you right away -- this film was NOT on his level. Far from it. Some great special effects (which were really impressive!) do not save this turkey.
But I do vaguely remember the score as being quite prominent and traditionally orchestral while I was watching.
