Yup, as someone who doesn't care about STAR TREK or JAMES BOND or old GODZILLA in a forum where everyone and their grandmother rave about them, I always get a little kick out of going against the flock with an innocent nudge. Guilty as charged! It's the small pleasures in life, you know.... wink

Star Trek, Schmar Trek...

LEFTOVERS---HBO will give the series a "creative reboot" for Season 2 in which most of the supporting roles will be recast and a new setting will be involved.

What a horrible idea for a show that was so good and showed so much promise. Oh well....at least it's allowed to continue.

What I read was a little different than how this reads - I don't think anyone is going to be recast. The article I read mentions that season 1 exhausted the original source material, and now they're expanding the story to other towns etc which will add a bunch of new characters and maybe drop some of the more minor characters from S1.

Given the ratings, the fact that HBO gave this another season at all is miraculous IMO. Some behind-the-scenes changes were bound to happen.

OK, that sounds a bit more promising. Thanks for clarifying.

Yet another Star Trek/time travel plot......set Phasers on stunned.

I am compelled to agree (Exorcist voice)... time travel is so common here it sounds like Doctor Who, not Star Trek.

(assuming Doctor Who does indeed have a bit to do with time, being a TimeLord and all... you know...)

I believe time travel is a safety crutch for writers who are nervous about daring to establish anything. Pen something people may not like, or something logically inconsistent, and you can always fall back on/rely upon the time travel device to reset things.

Very much so, and (IMHO) it's emblematic of the same failure of imagination that led the team behind the '09 Trek and its successor to go with two revenge-driven villains in a row (and right after Nemesis, making it three movies in a row). Ugh...

... But that said, I couldn't help but be somewhat pleased, since it sounded as though they might essentially be rebooting the reboot. Hey, whatever it takes to get away from that horrible vision and back to real Trek.

Then again, these new movies have been not only financially successful, but critically-acclaimed, the first especially so. This saddens and frustrates me, but oh well.

As a Ridley Scott fan, I'm sure you have to be accommodating to the smallest of pleasures.

Good for Paramount, getting rid of Orci is a step in the right direction. Now if paramount could just get rid of him as a producer as well.

I am guessing here, but I bet your can expect that other foot to fall shortly, if Paramount dumped his story and either 1) he huffed out of directing, or 2) they dumped him for his crappy ideas, then he will not be around to produce either. Further, they hardly need him, there are plenty of other producer teams around that can handle this just fine. Just bring in Brad Bird and let him scrap the entire script and the current writing team and start from scratch, let Brad Bird have carte-blanche at directing the way he wants. His Mission Impossible was the best one in a long time, Incredibles is a classic and Tomorrowland looks terrific.

And by all means, no more recycling story lines or villains from any of the old shows.

I was actually chatting with JJH a few days ago about Trek 3 when Orci got the ax, and made the comment to him then about why doesn't Abrams just hire Brad Bird to direct the damn thing. Glad to see I'm not the only one with that idea!

@Khan,

Nice to hear the same thoughts on this.
Brad Bird would be an excellent choice.
