This has to be one of the more widely publicized score rejections in recent memory, even though there is no information I can find online about who wrote the rejected score. Paul Schrader, the writer/director of "Dying of Light," said in an interview that the film was taken away from him, "recut and re-scored." Almost every review of the film I've read addresses not only the editing but the re-scoring as well. The new composer is Frederick Wiedmann, but I can't find any information on who wrote the first score. Does anybody know?

Well, this wouldn't be the first time a director has mentioned his film was recut and rescored, in an interview online.

The big public ones are and will probably be for a while (until the next one):

"King Kong" (Shore)
"Timeline" (Goldsmith)
"2001: A Space Odyssey" (North)
"The Wolfman" (Haslinger)
"Troy" (Yared)

And some others to slightly lesser degres (or more), including "Love Story" (simply because Jimmy Webb is the only composer I know of that sued over his replacement!).

I'm more surprised at how many film critics are mentioning the fact that there was a rejected score than I am at the director's statements, but then again the producers rejecting the score was an integral part of Paul Schrader's original quote so that explains it. But yes, this isn't the first time a director has made a public statement about a score being tossed. Schrader, of course, has always been outspoken when he loses a battle with the producers/studio.

Has anybody seen this film? It isn't getting positive reviews, but I'm curious how the replacement score sounds.

Somebody has seen the original cut and wrote about some of the changes, but they didn't mention the music:

Still curious about who the original composer was...

I believe Maurice Jarre sued or at least threatened to sue over being replaced on "White Squall," claiming he hadn't been paid all he was owed.

"King Kong" (Shore)

This doesn't belong on your list. Shore left the project when Peter Jackson himself was dissatisfied with the music during its (unfinished) recording.

I'm not sure about Wolfman, since that post-production phase was insane. Ditto Secret Window which went through three iterations of composers and editing.

It belongs on the list in the context which I posted it. Amounts recorded and cuts of films wasn't the issue.

What? Nobody's identified the composer yet? It's gonna fall on me, isn't? Well, add another one to the list of a few hundred others I have to look into.

For the second time since 2016, Schrader has hired the duo We Are Dark Angels (Nicci Kasper & Deantoni Parks/AKA: Brian Williams/AKA: Lustmord/AKA: Whatever name he goes with next).

I'm going to go ahead and go out on a limb and say they may have been the original choices for this film.
