FEDORA
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed and Conducted by Miklós Rózsa

Here’s a Varèse Encore release of another very early title from our CD Club. Miklós Rózsa’s luminous Fedora was actually just the second title released from the original Varèse CD Club, way back in 1989! It’s been out of print, expensive and hard to get ever since. But now the timing is perfect. The film itself was just released on Blu-ray a few weeks ago, allowing a new generation to discover it. We are so excited about making this late-Rózsa classic available once again.

As a special bonus, this Encore Edition also retains the Crisis Guitar Suite, performed by Daryl Denning.

In Fedora (1978), Billy Wilder approaches Hollywood stardom in the same fashion as he did in Sunset Boulevard--with cynicism, regret, understanding, and awe. Fedora (Marthe Keller) is film's most intriguing movie queen. Rumored to be well into her sixties, the actress has remained a starlet for over four decades--retaining youth and radiance despite her advancing years. The mystery behind her numinous persona has never ceased to captivate audiences. Even now, as she lives in seclusion on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu, the public buzzes for her to return to the screen. When producer Barry Detweiler (William Holden) travels to Corfu, staking his faltering career on Fedora's return, he discovers the actress's tragic secret. Fedora's eternal loveliness may not be the result of defying her age, but of concealing her youth.

I was posting only a few hours ago that I hoped this would be one of the releases. Excellent!

I'm always fascinated by folks who go into stores, hold up an item for sale and then proclaim loudly to the other bystanders...I'M NOT BUYING THIS...and then walk out.

To be fair, this is a forum for comment/debate - not a store!

Never mind, I decided to edit my comment. I don't want to argue with people who are only interested in raining on other people's happiness frown

If a release isn't for you, great. Why tie up the thread with pass comments is beyond me!

But if you was with a bunch of friends in a record store (if you could find one!) it's something you might say. Looks like a good batch, nothing there for me, but then I'm a hard sell these days. I have most of what I want.

I wonder if this will include Christopher Palmer's excellent and indispensable track by track LP liner notes which were not included with Varese's previous CD?

I'm happy. Never got original. Didn't even know about cd club in 1989. Too young then.

This looks wonderful and hope to pick it up. I love Billy Wilder films and have always had a crush on William Holden.

I am curious as to why members post that they are NOT going to purchase a particular release. I have seen this posted under new release threads before and always thought to myself "and your point is?"

On a Varese release? I'd be SHOCKED.

Glad this wonderful score is back. sop much music NOT in the film.

The complete tracks for this score still exist. too Bad that Varese didn't use them.

While such behavior can seem boorish in certain hands, you have to remember that this site is not only a place for comment (as somebody pointed out) but also a tool for market research. The companies use it go gain valuable feedback on the sales potential of various "products." Yes, this is (inter alia) a business. Customer contact is highly prized by all sellers, and the wise ones know how to interpret the feedback.

Palmer often claimed "author's copyright" on his writings, and the Palmer estate remains somewhat elusive. So I would not be surprised if Varese chose the easy way out by not reprinting.

I don't have the previous release, so I am going to pick this up. Does this cancel out RM Eastman's post?

An anecdotal negative is in no way market research, just reflects someone who needs to post on every one of these new release announcements that they don't want any of these releases. Which is wasting all of our time. (Like mine right now answering it for gosh sakes!)

Anyway, have to say that the clips are providing some interesting new variations in how Rozsa scored even so late in his career. Lovely release. Hope it sells out soon. Now THAT'S market research!

All I know is I heard music that sounded like Rozsa being Rozsa, in great sound, and on top of that the Crisis suite which I don't own any more (because that Edgar Hoover CD I used to have wasn't worth keeping).

It was a no brainer.
