Folks here keep referring to the Hermann at Fox and Arista versions, but not the one I have, which is from the Fox Film Scores Classic Series, vol. 5. Any content on that that's missing from the Kritzerland? Any sound tweaks that are preferred on the vol. 5 version?
The track listing on the Kritzerland doesn't list the Fox Fanfare - is it part of track one or is it missing?

The "Fox #5" version you have, if you look more carefully, is actually the Arista release.
The Kritzerland release has better, fuller sound.
The Fox fanfare is not on the Kritazerland CD, but does that really matter?
Thanks, Jim. I see what you mean re: Arista. No label logo but copyright info includes it as the distributor. Thank you. And re: fanfare. It does matter, but not enough to hold onto it. An odd omission, though. Either way, the Kritzerland samples do sound stellar! What we've come to expect. Thanks again for the info.

Arista marketed and distributed the "Fox Film Scores Classic Series" disc, so they are one and the same! The Kritzerland disc does not open with the Fox Fanfare, though I would guess the fanfare on the Arista disc was not newly recorded for DAY. I don't believe there's anything specific to THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL on the Arista that isn't on the Kritzerland. The latter, on the other hand, does have bonus material that is not on the Arista!
The Fox logo sounds a little creepier than usual, which leads me to believe it was recorded for DAY. Bruce, any insight into that?

There was another version of this soundtrack as well; the gold disc that was included with the Special Collector's Edition laserdisc box set, which was essentially the Fox/Arista disc, but appended with the first appearance of some of the bonus theremin tracks. The artwork was the same but with black borders, and slimmed down.
I just received my copy of the Kritzerland disc and listened to it today, and while I haven't A/B'ed anything, at first blush it sounds better than either Fox or the Varèse. There are times when the age of the recording gives it some minor limitations, but it sounded pretty fresh and present, more so than I recall the others sounding.

It is the standard logo music and we felt no need to include it since it is not part of the score written by Herrmann. Just an artistic choice by Mr. Matessino, Mr. Redman and myself. There are enough CDs with that logo music and I always personally find it weird.

The Fox logo on the Arista disc of TDTESS is the same recording used since around 1936 or so. I don't think there was a new recording until 1953, for HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE, and then the version with Cinemascope extension, although I don't know on which film that was first used.
