For me, I think it must be JURASSIC PARK -- which I've seen between 30-40 times, 3 in the theatre.

Runner-ups are the ALIEN films, which are probably also close to 30. At least for the first two. Never seen the first two in the theatre, though.

What about you?

The movie I've probably seen the most -I wish there was an Itunes option to show how many plays- will probably be Ghostbusters as it was literally one of the first movies I saw. I wore out the vhs tape as a kid and have seen it a lot since on dvd (still need to get the new blu-ray). It's the type of movie where I can recite every line while humming along with the score! big grin

P.S. I went to see JP three times in the cinema. Only other movie I went to see as many times was The Green Mile.

One of the following:

Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

I've seen each of the three movies in the original Star Wars trilogy theatrically three times in a single day on at least one occasion, sometimes more (that is, for some there has been more than one time when I've seen the movie theatrically at least three times in a single day). With Raiders of the Lost Ark, when it got its limited reissue in IMAX a couple years ago, I saw it eight times in one week (twice one day, once each other day), and then again just two days later along with the other three movies in AMC's marathon event, so I saw the movie theatrically nine times in as many days. And all four of the above movies I've watched on video more times than I can even estimate, on various formats over the years.

Other movies I've watched / seen an awful lot include most of the various other movies in the three series those four are parts of, plus Time Bandits, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Jaws, Dark Star, Big Trouble in Little China, and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. I couldn't really guess how many times I've watched any of these (even though I've never gotten to see either Dark Star or Jaws theatrically, though I'd dearly love to). There are some movies I've seen a lot more times on the big screen than any of these, but I'm thinking of the movies I've watched most overall, whether theatrically or on video.

23 viewings officialy listed (source : my diary !)

And maybe a couple of times prior to the beginning of my diary. smile

But that's part of an annual ritual and I've never seen another movie more than, let's say, six or seven times and that must be NORTH BY NORTHWEST only.

In theaters...

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom...33 times

Raiders of the Lost Ark...31 times

On home video... (VHS + Laserdisc + DVD)

Hmmm. Probably a toss up between Mysterious Island and Night of the Living Dead.

THE WILD BUNCH.

beat me to it james. This or GBU. Probably bunch as saw it several times in cinema, and i recorded it off tv in 78 with our first phillips video. later it was the first Vhs film i got.

but will be interesting to see how the total number of times increases as the thread goes on!!

i reckon Thors 30-40 times will be trumped many times. Whats gonna win? 200? 300?!!

I find it amazing how ppl can remember the number of times they've seen a film. I wouldn't have a clue!
But the top two on my list would be "Star Wars (77)" and "The Secret of NIMH (82)". Others (but way behind my top two) based on how fondly I remember them include, "The Rocketeer", "The Wrath of Khan", "Glory", and the Disney animated classics.

the brackets were year of release - i thought you were naming how many times you saw them - straight after saying How can people remember? made me laugh!

I can see how that would be confusing! Yeah, year released not number of times viewed.

I don't really remember exact numbers either. They're all estimates.

I'll post this in the new improved 4K HD thread.

I don't know. Over the years I must have seen certain films tons of times at home, but I'm talking 58 years of telly watching. At the cinema it's easy, Jason & The Argonauts 1963. I saw it on Sunday, went back the next day, I saw it about four times that week, & about ten times in the next ten years in various rerun cinemas. I bought the Blu-ray about four years ago...I haven't watched it yet.

Similar story with me. Mine is The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. I remember seeing that film at my local cinema. Back in those days, you could stay over and watch the film again. Over the years, I have seen it many times on Sony HD and TCM. Always a joy to watch. It was the first Harryhausen film I saw at the cinema and my favourite. I have the Twilight Blu-ray, but haven't got round to watching either.

for me it is probably a Ridley Scott movie, which I generally really like the visuals for ... not just the special effects but the camera work, use of shadows, atmosphere, etc

examples :
-------------
Alien
Blade Runner
Kingdom Of Heaven

I'd say it is either Airplane! or Dr. Strangelove.
