I mildly liked it, but the courtroom gimmicks seemed less inspired this season tham in years past. I hadn't realized that the ratings had slipped as much as they had.

That doesn't sound very funny at all.

The 2010 Joe Johnston Wolf Man was horribly underrated.

I am soooo with you, Mr. Jack! I think Johnston's remake is an exceptional film. It was far from a box-office success, which may be why Universal is doing another one. Too bad.

Agreed. Growing up loving the Universal Monsters of the 30's and 40's, I felt that it was very much in the spirit of them. And Elfman's score was terrific.

Too bad that the fabulous reboot of the 1941 Universal logo wasn't used in The Wolfman theatrical release. It appears on the DVD "Director's Cut," and is very impressive.

Of all the attempts to resurrect the "feel" of the classic Universal Monster films of the 30's and 40's, Wolf Man was one of the only films to really get the look and tone right, with the proper emphasis on atmosphere and melancholy dread rather than cheap jump scares and an overdose of CGI. It's not a perfect movie -- one can sense studio meddling with Rick Baker's impressive makeup design being "enhanced" with CG -- yet it's the best homage to the classic UM flicks since The Monster Squad. Shame it did so poorly, although constantly pushing back the release date before dumping it in the February doldrums didn't help...watch it near Halloween, and it has the perfect atmosphere.

Is that photo supposed to be Mr. and Mrs. BEN-HUR, with baby Judah...?

She's a long way from Martha Scott...

O Tempora, O Mores!

(And I'll probably actually pay money to go see the damn thing...)

Ah, me...

Another vote for Johnston's The Wolfman, despite all the tinkering from Universal (they even had someone else compose a more" pop" music score, but thankfully didn't use it), it's a really enjoyable movie, and as has been said by other posters (Tall Guy I think), the Blu-ray looks absolutely stunning. I must get around to looking at the original, I haven't seen it for decades, & I've had the Universal Blu for a few years.

Guess their trying to bring in The Hunger Games crowd. Think I'll pass.

Yeah, because no movie ever had a romantic plotline before The Hunger Games...

True, maybe if she had a personality, and could act I would care.

Wolf Man was one of the only films to really get the look and tone right, with the proper emphasis on atmosphere and melancholy dread rather than cheap jump scares and an overdose of CGI.

It had an overdose of CGI at the end with a werewolf battle that was only frightening in how badly it played. I don't agree that the movie got the tone and atmosphere right, and despite some good things in it, I think it was only half realized. The choice to set it in an earlier time than the original (and those '30s and '40s Universal horrors always seemed set in a vague "never was" in an equally vague Europe), specifically late Victorian England, was a mistake that borrowed more from "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" than Curt Soidmak probably intended (because The Wolf Man is a Jekyll and Hyde variation), and resulted in a period costume melodrama that undercut any horror appeal for a modern audience. Yet, it might have worked with a better script or at least a more specific point of view. If this reboot gets made, I'll bet they move the time period up, though hopefully not too contemporary.
