Hi, I've watched a bunch of dvds in the past few days, all just happened to have Max Steiner scores. How about some new releases. suggestions - the actual tracks of All This and Heaven Too. A great score. Morgan and Stromberg did a very good rerecording a few years ago, but hearing it in the film, played by the superb warner orchestra, made me yearn for the originals. One area of Steiner that has been neglected is his late period - the late fifties and early sixties. In the early nineties, warners did a preservation effort. All of the mono mags were sent to Chace productions to make new preservation mags and DATS. Each score had its own mag made and two DAT copies. the original mags were NOT junked but sent back to Warners. In spite of that, some important Steiners scores were lost including Rome Adventure, Youngblood Hawke, and Spencers Mountain, Those three scores were recorded and preserved in stereo.I think they were just misshelved and will eventually be found. But how about releasing the complete tracks to Parrish, Band of Angels, Dark at the Top of the Stairs, and Susan Slade?

I would love to have a complete score of THE HANGING TREE. Cody, THE HANGING TREE is my number one Steiner request! Luckily, I've gotten many that I wanted the most such as: King Kong, Son of Kong, Most Dangerous Game, Lost Patrol, Sierra Madre, Don Juan, Charge of the Light Brigade, Johnny Belinda, GWTW, Since You Went Away, etc.

I wouldnt mind some more 40s either...starting finally with a release of NOW, VOYAGER. btw, hasn't LLL mentioned they have a Steiner score on their list of upcoming releases? I too would welcome a proper NOW, VOYAGER. I would welcome ANY new Max Steiner CDs. I don't think LLL has any Steiner CDs forthcoming in the near future. MV did say a while back that he would consider doing them in 2015. Maybe MV can update us. Believe it or not most of the labels have done little or no Steiner CDs. Why I don't know. Luckily we have the great series from BYU, a few from Screen Archives and a terrific series on Marco Polo/Naxos/Tribute. Please, Intrada, LLL, Kritzerland, BYU, SAE, Varese etc., a few Steiner would be most welcomed.

I second HELEN OF TROY. This is long past due for a legit release. And one of Steiner's very best!

And what about Parrish, rome adventure and othe late steiner's scores ? In 2013 this was Ray's reply about the late Steiner scores. So it seems not much survives: "Nothing from ALL MINE TO GIVE survives except a demo recording of the song. SPENCER'S MOUNTAIN only survives in Steiner acetates - about 20 minutes worth. YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE only survives in Steiner acetates, about 12 minutes; same with SUSAN SLADE. One cue from TWO ON A GUILLOTINE survives on acetate. Nothing on tape or disc from FORT DOBBS, RACHEL CADE, ROME ADVENTURE, JOHN PAUL JONES, PORTRAIT OF A MOBSTER. I have no idea what Fox has on CHINA GATE, which was Victor Young's last score and was finished by Steiner." http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=98014&forumID=1&archive=0 And as to THE HANGING TREE: "90 per cent of the score survives in mono mag sound, including the song. Licensing, for song and score, is another bag of worms." http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=76129&forumID=1&archive=0

Also, in this post Lukas mentions that the original film recording of Kaper's Auntie Mame survives in mono if anyone wants to tackle it some day (the LP recording of it was paired with the LP recording of Rome Adventure on FSM's CD reissue): http://filmscoremonthly.com/daily/article.cfm?articleID=6751 I think it's telling that he doesn't say the same of Rome Adventure, nor for the following Steiner two-fer does he mention any other surviving tapes. So I think we can infer that though the Kaper score survives, the three Steiner scores are apparently lost aside from the LP recordings. It is rather odd and unfortunate, isn't it, that fewer of Steiner's later scores apparently survive than his earlier ones? Yavar
