I like the score. And to my utter surprise, I DID LIKE the Movie. I thought it was better on the psychological stuff than any of the Avengers Movies.

As you are someone who did like the movie, could you expand upon what psychological depth there was here? I was utterly bored by the film, and found nothing beyond the two dimensions that we already know about these characters (Batman broods and is a capable ninja, Superman is an alien and has the potential to save or destroy humanity). I'd like to give the director's cut a chance down the road; there's probably some kind of salvageable movie in here before all of the cooks entered the kitchen.

I think I've identified what I don't like about Junkie XL's Batman theme, and maybe someone here can articulate in more technical terms what I'm saying. To me, it feels like XL's theme interrupts whatever it's inserted into. For example, in "Do You Bleed?" and "Fight Night", as a listener you start settling into some really cool action music and then it just stops for us to hear the Batman theme. It's almost like it's structurally incapable of being adapted to other tempos, which prevents it from being as useful as it could be.

Does anyone get what I'm trying to say? :-)

Hi Martin

I think you articulated that perfectly well. I don't know if I agree or not - I can only say that I didn't notice that. I went to the film not expecting Bergman or Eisenstein and I wasn't disappointed. Sure, there were a few points that jarred a little, but I enjoyed it a little more than I was expecting to from all the doom and gloom and misery that had been peddled prior to me seeing it.

As I said elsewhere, the venue was a small one, so neither the picture nor the sound were overwhelming and I enjoyed it much more than Man of Steel. I always preferred the bat anyway, and Affleck/Irons made a good pairing.

As this is the score discussion thread, I'll just say that I thought it fit the visuals very well. If you love the Reeve version with the stirring, melodic score you'd have to be pretty open-minded to appreciate this much as well. If I had to choose, I'd watch BvS again.

I completely get that. I only saw the movie recently (and enjoyed it) but that was something that I noticed during the film....it took me out of the film a couple of times.

I would also like to try and articulate something...

I was still collecting comics during the Death of Superman run. I remember reading the very last comic in that series where Superman "dies". It was all images and no dialogue at all. And I was scoring the comic in my head. I can't explain why, but the moment when Superman dies at the hands of Doomsday I heard "The Fortress of Solitude" (2:46 - 3:06 on the Blue Box album)

When this moment happened in the film, I was running that piece through my head and it fit perfectly. So, even with the electronic score that is BvS - that orchestral piece of music fit the scene perfectly (to me anyway). I don't know - it seemed like such a juxtaposition yet so right.

Anyway. That's just my 2 cents worth.

There's a "complete score" on YouTube. The below channel has a playlist of it. Did this get an official physical release?

It never got an official release, period. That's a bootleg release you just linked to

This score didnt impress me at first. Specially after the amazing Man of Steel score.
But man, it really grew on me and I love it today!
