Doesn't look like anyone is talking about this Pixar short yet,, which premiered tonight, but I thought that I mention that Giacchino's score is actually quite good. He even employed using the same rams horn that Goldsmith so famously used in PLANET OF THE APES (pay attention at about 5 and half mins in and when Reptillus Maximus and Trixie the triceratops are talking, the horn is used to announce the entrance of the show's villain.) Anyways, thought that if folks on here didn't know about this that they'd find the use of the PLANET OF THE APES' horn an interesting detail to listen out for.

I didn't know they had made another one of these. (I'm assuming the recent announcement of TOY STORY 4 will put paid to any more of these for the time being.)

Anyhow, that is interesting and cool about the Ram's Horn. I wonder what the chances are of Intrada releasing a CD of both Giacchino scores, TOY STORY OF TERROR and THE TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT? I'd certainly buy it. (I'd also buy SKY HIGH and the Giacchino variations of Williams for the updated STAR TOURS attraction, if anyone is listening!)

It's honestly not that interesting musically, so don't get your hopes up. Even with the fleeting use of the "ram's horn," it sounds like any other (orchestral) TV score for an animated show.

Of all the non Randy Newman scores for the Toy Story shorts and specials, Giacchino's two have distinguished themselves the least.

The three short films that rolled out around 2011 - "Hawaiian Vacation" (scored by Mark Mothersbaugh), "Partysaurus Rex" (scored by BT), and "Small Fry" (scored by Henry Jackman) - had much better and significantly more interesting music. Each one of them established a sound that felt unique and yet part of the Toy Story universe, and they did it in under 7 minutes, as opposed to 22 each for TS OF TERROR and this year's TS THAT TIME FORGOT. I think Jackman actually did the best of the three.

Watched this last night. Enjoyed Giacchino's score a lot! I'm surprised it isn't available online yet like Toy Story Of Terror was.

Hopefully it's because a physical CD is forthcoming.

Watched it last night too.

Pretty good short episode, better than last years' Toy Story of Terror.

Assuming Disney will compile this stuff on Blu Ray and CD at some point.

TOY STORY OF TERROR is on Blu Ray, and the three shorts are included. The shorts are better than the TERROR itself!

I never particularly cared for Newman's Toy Story scores (I like his songs though). I enjoyed this special, although outside of the 1-2 action-type pieces the score didn't jump out at me at first-listen. What I did notice, I liked. If they reair it next year I'll probably have a more attentive ear for it (or, even better, if they release the score digitally like the last one). I typically like Giacchino's work, although my enthusiasm has waned a little bit over the last two years or so.

I actually thought Terror was pretty good. I agree that the shorts are better, but I loved Carl Weather's "Combat Carl" character and the Predator references. Giacchino's score was much better in the latest short. Hoping they will release a digital version of the score. It's going to be hard for them to top "Toy Story 3" IMHO, but we'll see.
